Reply to the "golf is not a sport" post edited.

This is a good thread about interesting courses to play and shouldnt really degenerate into a flame fest about whether golfers are athletes or not.

Actually I was referring to the Dolder. I haven't heard of Zumikon? Is that within the city limits?

The best greens that I ever played on are from a public course in Fort Collins, CO called Collindale Golf Course. Assuming that the pitch marks are repaired properly, these greens are great. The course is basic; flat and not very much character. Collingdale hosted local US Open qualifying and the greens were rolling around 13 - 13.5 on the stimp. It rained the night before so the greens were fairly receptive. Low qualifying score to regional qualifying was 67. Even Par 71 would have gotten you in a playoff for the final spot.

I agree JohnG,

leave the anger out of this thread.

Zumikon is about 15km out. Better than Dolder.

RobotDoctor, I would love to play there. Thanks, insider tips are most welcome.

My home course, the Düsseldorfer GC (located in Ratingen), is good in the summer!

Also look at the "Summer in Banff" thread!
Nice pictures of Silver Tip and Greywolf!

Sometime back in the 1980s Sports Illustrated rated the hardest positions in sports. They used physical AND mental "requirements" when making the decision.

Hockey goalie #1.
Baseball catcher #2
Professional Golfer #3

The great thing about golf is that ANYBODY can play with/against ANYBODY.

Can YOU play tennis against Andre Agassi or Serena Williams? No

Can YOU play 1-1 basketball with Kobe Bryant? No.

Can YOU hit a pitch thrown by a major league baseball pitcher? Probably not.

Can YOU take the field at a Manchester United scrimmage? Probably not.

Can YOU play golf with Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia or any other pro golfer? Yes.
In golf anybody can play the game with anybody.

I played the Glen Club in the Chicago area last week.

Nice track.

There are also many nice courses around Bend, Oregon, not only the Sunriver Resort but also Broken Top, Awbrey Glen.
And do not forget about Teton Pines and the Jackson Hole Golf und Tennis Club!

Good luck to all golfers!

Has any one played the courses in Cabo? I'am not a golfer but one friend a retired NHL player said they were great, and he has played all over the world.

Another tip for Yakima, center of WA:

Apple Tree golf course. A very fine track, always in good condition, nice warm weather!

Cool 17th apple shaped island green, some bunkers lakes look like apples as well. Back nine is quite open.

Very cheap, approximately 20-55 USD!

Best course (overall experience) I have played this year:

http://www.hydemountain.com/

simply awesome, hole 4 features 270 degree lakeview and drops about 650 feet from the tee to the fairway.

The last 5 holes are great, the course is getting better towards the end! Play there!
The lake is as nice as lake Couer d'Alene in Idaho.

A friendly bump for the golf in Phoenix thread.

Troon North, both courses are the best IMO but unfortunately also the most expensive ones in the area as well.

BTW,

is any FTer a member at Desert Mountain ? I would love to play there.

I don't think Troon is nearly as expensive at The Boulders. But I prefer TPC.

I've play Gulf Harbour many times. I think it has the chance to mature into an excellent course. I've also played several other courses in the area, the names of which I've forgotten, or at least my brother forgot to tell me. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

I'll be in NZ in around three weeks time for about a month, with my sticks. I am definitely up for a round or three at Kauri Cliffs or Wairakei. Any guys out there willing to take on a lady with a 230 meter drive and a 12 hdcp?

flamboyant 1 Nov 17, 2003 3:56 am

michswiss,

I am not in NZ then but would certainly love to play a round with you when you are either near DUS or in Switzerland. What is your home course there ? There are many nice courses in CH: Domaine Imperial, Lausanne, Crans, Verbier, and in France Chamonix (stunning views of the Mont Blanc) and Evian presque au bord du lac leman...)
