the LAX 24 post office is a gem!

The 24/7 P.O. near PDX is on Airport Way is about .5 miles from the terminal, a few bucks by cab.

There's a 24/7 P.O. in downtown Chicago near LaSalle Station.

Hmmmm.... thought that by cab it would be at least 2 or 3 miles. (Going out of airport, cutting around and then down airport way a good mile.) It's been a few years since I lived there so maybe I'm off a little.
Anyways, I always use www.usps.com to find the PO's.

There is a post office at DFW that is open 24/7 But no way to get there from the terminal without exiting the aiport an re-entring via the serivce road. Also, the main Dallas post office just west of downtown is open 24/7.

Philadelphia's main post office is located directly across the street from 30th St. Station (the main Amtrak facility) and is open 24x7x365.

As a chronic procrastinator, I've become knolwedgable about these http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif. From places I've lived in:

SFO has a 24-hour post office located I think near the UAL maintainance base north of the airport (haven't been there, this is hearsay).

In San Jose, at least a few years ago the last post office to close was at Eastridge Mall - I think it shut down at 8:30 on weeknights.

San Diego AFAIK has no late-night post office. The last to close are the postal stations (like the one at UTC) that close at 7 pm.

The main post office in Bern, Switzerland (around the corner from the Hauptbahnhof) has a night window that I used to send registered mail.

In Vienna, Austria, there's a post office at FJ Bahnhof (in the back of the building, not actually in the part for passengers) that I think is open until like 10 pm. At the Westbahnhof is one that's open until 11 or 11:30 pm, and there's a 24-hour night window at the post office in Fleischmarkt, near Schwedenplatz.

In Boston there's the one by South station, which I think closes between midnight and 6 am. Haven't yet been there, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

As a frequent visitor to Boston, it'd be nice to know of a 24 hr USPS, but after researching on USPS.com, the only PO closest to S. Station I could find is South Boston Station, 444 E 3rd St, Boston, MA 02127 and the listed hours are:

The post office at DTW is open 24 hours. It is, however, not within walking distance of either of the terminals, as it is located on a side road between I-94 and the airport.

No, the poster is referring to the 1970's looking South Station Postal Annex (built to sort mail for loading onto trains at about the same time the Penn Central was going bankrupt!), or "Fort Point Station"

It used to be a 24 hr location, but with the Big Dig hindering access and USPS budget cuts, it's been trimmed back to the above. I still think it's the post office in the Boston area with the most service hours, though.

Just go east along the South Station head-house over towards the tracks used by Amtrak and by the MBTA trains to Plymouth/Middleborough, walk out the platform closest to the Fort Point Channel, and you should see the walkway leading to the counters.
