A couple 'early' domestic US flights:
SFO MSP 0045 0607 NW 362
SEA STL 0055 0629 AA 318

This just misses being 'early':
LAS LAX 2359#0106 HP 116

I regularly fly out of Boston at 5:45 and 6 am. With the consumer protections in Massachusetts, and with Logan Airport so close to the city, it's unlikely to be flights much earlier than that.

But with the security delays/requirements, along with the 1-hour trip it takes me to get to the airport, I'm up at 3:15 am to take those flights.

Why? Is this a temperature/fuel thing?

I had a similar experience with TWA in Tel Aviv in the 80's as a 22 year old. My ticket was a free first class ticket that stopped in Egypt before coming to Israel. I was the last one cleared on the plane. I still remember the incredibly nosy questions that the security people asked me.

Part of that is due to India being 1/2way to far east,so travelers from west/europe arrive in Far East in morning, and vice-versa, or so it would seem, according to schedules I've seen.

America west had plenty of flights out of LAS leaving really early. (I had an LAS-SLC just after midnight)

Anything out of DEL also tends to leave in the early hours of the morning.

a few weeks back my ORD-MSY flight was pushed back to 00:07am...

But those are all more late-night than morning.

As for legit 'morning' flights. UAs 6:00 ORD-DEN is always packed on Mondays. I've also done a 5:55 Delta. (That is now pushed back to 6:00)

Though the earliest I've done recently was DAY-MDW and MDW-DAY. My outbound was MDW-DAY leaving at 5:45am. However, the aircraft originates in DAY, and for the return, I took the 5:15am DAY-MDW flight. (The times have since been pushed back a little) Surprizingly the flight only had a couple of empty seats. That the earliest 'legit' morning flight I've been on.

There is the QF & DJ flights from Perth through to Sydney in Australia, leave around 0025am or so and get into Sydney around 645am. Ready to go straight to work.

I remember doing this flight on AN once and it actually shows in their system as the:

"Nullabour Fun Flight"

Don't know why it's so much fun... especially if you get stuck with an exit row without recline on DJ! So much for sleeping!

Another one is the horrible flights on NH from GUM-NRT (service has now ended ex NRT), it leaves at about 4am or so, getting you into NRT bright and early to go straight to work after a break in GUM!

What's worse the flight from NRT leaves at 10pm and gets you in around 2 or 3am.... so you're stuck paying for an extra night and you don't know whether to sleep or start getting excited and go out to the beach early???

Connecting flights - BA/KL/AF/AZ/LH and many other took pax to their national hubs, and then moved some of the paxs to other destinations - many a times it was in the African continent.

Much of it is still true. Many eurpoean airlines have an extensive network in africa, which is where many of the first/second generation indians who reside there; need regular connections - as opposed to once or twice a week schedule of other airlines.

L Dude 7,

How did you like those early morning flights on ATA?

1-Numerous redeyes from WCoast leaving from 12:30-2:00am.
2-Too many NWA MKE/DTW 6am.
3-12/01 -NWA MKE/MSP 8pm -OK, but MSP/PHX couldn't fly due to crew rest requirements, so we were told to be back at the Airport to board at 4:30am for 5am departure.

KE from HKG to ICN... 12:40pm landed at 4:40am local time (!!!) That was the worst...3hrs in the air and an arrival at 4:45am.

To visit family in NYC, we'd always do those 7am flights to EWR.

They were great. I love early morning flights - just wish there were more of them!

HKBong Aug 16, 2003 8:46 pm

I have just taken a 2 Am flight from LAX to HKG but that might count as a late flight. CX881.

Another was a 6Am from SFO to Boston. United.

Redeyes are great!
