Do you see "the public" returning to flying in droves once the war winds down? SInce NOTHING really seems to be happening for air fare sales since the war began, I wonder if seats will start to fill rapidly once the troops head home.

Although there is no doubt that the war has put some people off flying who will return after the war (although something else is likely to come along to frighten them off again in the near future). I do not think there will be a general up turn in the airline industry until the airlines change their strategy.
Currently all airlines are lowering costs, cutting standards, increasing prices and gernally upsetting customers and staff. I think ailines, yes they need to be more cost effective but the most important thing is to encourage passengers back by offering a better service that makes flying an enjoyable experience again and not just a hastle.

In the back of my mind is the thought that we've P.O.'d a significant part of the radical Islamic world. If the new regime isn't obviously not an American puppet I think air travel may be somewhat less safe than before the war.

After spending the last week seeing European TV coverage of the war I would say we have PO'd more than just the radical Islamic world. European stations have stories on who is "profiting" from the war and the civilian deaths (on film) that CNN doesn't report. This does open up actions against American civilians to be fair game.
