Quiet hotel at LAX?
When doing an overnight stay at LAX, one of my biggest problems is getting a good night's sleep with all of the noise coming from the airport. Can anyone recommend a hotel that really has soundproofed their rooms so that I won't hear the roar of the planes taking off? One requirement is that the hotel provides shuttle service to the airport.

While by no means luxurious, the Radisson Hotel Los Angeles Westside fits the bill for quiet relaxation. The hotel provides complimentary airport transportation. The Radisson is located about 10-15 minutes away in Culver City. It is across the street from shopping, restaurants, and the cinema at the Hughes Center. The rooms are par for the Radisson course and the staff is OK, better than the average LAX hotel. I find prices to be a little higher (usually $99-119, compared to extensive discounting offered by the large chain hotels on Century Blvd.). The hotel has a decent pool/fitness area. All in all, I would compare it to an upscale Holiday Inn or a lower end Sheraton.

The response to this one is easy: The new Radisson at LAX (former Hyatt and later Wyndham). Not to be confused with the nearby Radisson Westside.
Despite being the closest hotel to the airport, this place is absolutely soundproof. The windows are multiple layer deals with air in between the layers. You absolutely cannot hear a thing going on outside. It's worth staying in this hotel just to experience this level of soundproof-ness. I've never seen it in any other building anywhere, ever. |
I recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn LAX and it was nice and quiet. Nice hotel for the money too. They have shuttle service and if you need to get to the airport when their shuttle isn't running they will pay for a cab for you.

Has anyone ever tried the Holiday Inn at the corner of La Cienega and Century Blvd.? It's a little further from the airport and perhaps it is more quiet.

I will alsocast a vote for the very niceEl Segundo Hilton Garden Inn as I am a light sleeper too. Just be certain to get a room away from the light rail line.
Their shuttle runs every 30 min, takes about 8 min and if you are a HH VIP (isnt everyone at least a HH Gold) you get a FULL breakfast. Also FREE high speed internet in ALL rooms. MisterNice |
Stayed at Marriott LAX, shortly after flights resumed post-9/11. Had early AM flight & it was very easy to drive there the night before & leave our car. The room was small, comfortable -- overlooked the runways & we heard NO noise at all. Wake-up call was as ordered & the shuttle service was great both coming and going. All in all, an extremely efficent, well-run airport hotel for an overnight stay (wouldn't want to spend a holiday there). Re: Holiday Inn at LaCienega & Century: The problem is Century Blvd traffic, thus the drive time is a factor. Marriott is closer to the airport & shuttle runs every few minutes. (Edited to include Holiday Inn info).

Now, that I think of it--the reason it may have been so quiet, is because there were so few flights...we flew out, I believe, the first day the airport re-opened. Actually, it was kind of eerie. Thus, the explanation for the lack of noise (thanks for jogging my memory). P.S. have you considered the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey? It's very close to the airport & quite nice.

Congrats on you marriage. We have attended weddings at the Ritz Carlton. Marina and they were wonderful. Given your circumstances; that you will be honeymooning in the Society Isles, just ease yourself back into the real world--save the masks and earplugs from the amenity kits and stay at the Marriott--surely, it is the most convenient. If you want to extend your honeymoon by one day--return to the Ritz Carlton.
All best wishes to you and yours== O2k |

Any feedback on the Hacienda Hotel on Sepulveda? The name doesn't sound very promising, but the hotel itself looks quite nice for the price.
