Quick! Sydney hotel help!

This may be a stretch- but i have a friend who's going to be in sydney from 17-28th this month who needs a hotel- she know's of a youth hostel for like 70 AUS$, but i though maybe there is a hotel that is better at the same price or slightly higher hopefully in the city centre or near the beach areas... thanks for any suggestions!!

I was in sydney in August and stayed at the Rennaisance. They had a buy one night, get one free promo. I think the one night price was about $190 AUS. That would make it really about $95 AUS/night, but it's a perfect location and a very nice hotel. I forget the promo code, but I'm sure you can just call and ask for the buy one night, get one free deal (if they still have it).

Try www.accomline.com I got a deluxe single room with full hot breakfast at the Swiss Grand Hotel on Bolongo Beach for about $110. US per night. It's easy to use with lots of hotel/price levels. I chose this one because it's fairly close to the airport and has a shuttle. Being right on the beach is a plus also.

The Swiss Grand is a very nice hotel, and they did at one point serve a really good seafood buffet, but the Swiss Grand is located on the corner of Campbell Pde & Beach Rd at Bondi Beach.

My favorite value hotel in the CBD is The Avillion, a couple of blocks from both Hyde Park and the central rail station.

Might try the Australian site of www.lastminute.com (either www.lastminute.com.au or www.au.lastminute.com ). There are good specials occasionally.

I booked my GF into the Swiss Grand Bondi beach last year for A$100(!) through Expedia.com just before the 3-ring circus. Supposed to have been a mistake but the hotel honoured the rate.
