Here's my story. My kids go to school in the East but I live in So Cal. Last week we were dropping them off for the school year.

Our return flight was on 9/12/01 Flt 175 out of BOS to LAX.Glad we decided to spend that extra day with our student.But we were stranded. Logan airport was in lockdown,you couldn't get near the place.
Made several attempts to fly from Providence, which claimed to be open but no planes were leaving.So we started driving west.Somewhere in Ohio received a call that our student in NJ had an accident, so we turned around.Spent several very stressful days in the hospital(all is OK now)and flew home from EWR.I have NEVER been more calm flying in my life.Maybe it was because we dodged the flt 175 bullet by chance, and now I am fatalistic.I will continue to fly.What happens happens,but I feel safe.
