BEST CHOCOLATE SERVED ONBOARD?

Just wanted to ask some "chocoholics" which airlines in your opinion have the best chocolates you were served onboard.

My vote goes to DELTA - Business Elite for having NEUHAUS.

On DL regular domestic FC, at the end of the flight, I have also been offered Ghiradelli (once) and Godiva chocolates (almost all flights).

I think DL's BizE only offers the Neuhauss on certain routes. I've gotten it to AMS, but think I've gotten Godiva more often.

My vote goes to Finnair. Last year in J I got a pair of truffles on a JFK->HEL flight that were beyond superb. They were as good as Teuscher's. According to the purser they're from a mom & pop shop in Helsinki. I wish I could remember the name...

Swiss Air offer Swiss Chocoaltes to all of its passengers (even those in coach) and on all flights--even those leaving at 7:00am.

Air India uploads an amazing handmade chocolate called "Choc Affairs" for their First Class and Business Class passengers out of BOM. They are HEAVENLY....

the Neuhaus are (as far as I know) the original belgium ones, the Godiva I get (got?) on UA are (only) made in the USA and not original belgium ones, Swissair (only) serves 'mass fabricated factory' (but still excellent) swiss chocolates (mostly from Lindt&Sprüngli in Kilchberg at the Lake of Zürich).

I prefer See's, but no one gives them that I know of.

As far as I know, both UNITED and US AIRWAYS serve GODIVA - USA made chocolates onboard.

One of my favorites is LEONIDAS, but I don't think anyone serves them onboard. Does anybody happen to know which brand SABENA uses? I cannot conceive a Belgian carrier not serving chocolates.

airoli Mar 22, 2001 2:57 pm

On my flights with Sabena and Swissair in Feb I've been given Godiva's chocolate bars flying BRU-ORD, and they were actually made in Belgium. On my way back, ORD-ZRH on Swissair, they gave me Swiss mass-made chocolates from Lindt & Sprüngli. SR also serves Swiss Cailler (Nestlé) chocolates on shorthaul flights.

Looks like Godiva is the most popular brand out there. I think is good but I would not rate it the best. Teuscher, Leonidas, Neuhaus and Daskalides are better, in my humble opinion.

Arguably it seems that Belgian chocolates are the most popular. I grew up thinking that Swiss are the best. Has anybody tried French chocolates? I have been in Paris many times and never has it occurred to me to try "Maison du Chocolat", FAUCHON, HEDARD or LENOTRE (this is shameful considering that I have studied the Culinary Arts). Oh well, the world is full of ironies.

Leonidas better than Godiva??? No way, even people from Belgium don't like Leonidas and consider it a 3rd class chocolate.

For me it is a tie! DL Biz/E NEUHAUS (I have had them on all transatlantic Biz/E flights). On OS, I do not know the name, but the stuff is really good!

akhullar Mar 26, 2001 10:35 pm

Teuscher'S is Swiss no ? or am I mistaken :-)

DL does serve Neuhauss on transaltantic routes.

Having said that -talking about best choclates from Europe is like talking about ahem! Best baseball team from NYC (DUCKing bigtime now :-) )
