In the midddle of november I will fly to YVR. Since I am a member of SK EuroBonus I will fly with one of the *. The best options I have find is with LH via FRA and AC via LHR. The price is almost the same. The LH flight will give me a few hundred more points. Which one should I take? I was on a LH intercont flight a few weeks ago, should I try another star carrier? Or should I complete change my plans and find some UA connection instead? Btw I am flying eco

I have never flown eco over the Atlantic...but if I had my choice (although I am Canadian) there is no choice but AC. Service levels are drastically different.

AC is likely a 340 and LH a 747.

If you really prefer FRA...you could do FRA-YYC (Calgary)- YVR. I do that all the time.

Next week I do ZRH-LHR-YVR / YVR-YYZ-ZRH.

I would avoid considering using a UA connection because of the extra Customs/immigration step in each direction. You don't have the same transit options that you have in non-North American airports: From FRA, you'd have to clear customs & immigration in the U.S., then do it again when you got to YVR. On the way back, you clear U.S. customs again (in YVR), then a 4th time when you get back to FRA.

Also, if "middle of November" includes the week of Nov 20th, you'll be travelling during the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, which is one of the busiest air travel times in the U.S. You increase the risk of delays, ultra-full flights, etc. (Canadian Thanksgiving is in early october.)

I have now decided about the trip. I will fly LH through Frankfurt on the outbound and on the inbound journey I will use the service of AC through London.

Can you do that mixed ticketing without sending your fare up into the stratosphere? Most carrier's reduced fares are limited to their own services or codeshares.

Both LH and AC will be 340's, so there is nothing to choose in terms of equipment.

Don't forget to bring your woolies. Although today is brilliantly (nay, even blindingly) sunny, November in Vancouver is the start of the gray and wet season.

(At least we don't have to shovel the rain, though!).

FRA-YVR is currently booked on the AC codeshare flightnumber. Going through Fra and then LHR was even cheaper then going through Frankfurt twice. Flying AC home was better because that will give us a few more hours in Vancouver. Remember we are only there for the weekend.
