Welcome to the boards! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I'd like to apologize for the antics by the two Jacka** stoogies who didn't answer your question. A little more info would be helpful. How long will you be in the airport? What terminal do you arrive in? What terminal do you leave from. Basically, if you have alot of time you can always go through secrity and go outside and smoke. If you're at EWR on nov 8 or 9... I'll smoke one with you. |
emjones:
I. also welcome you to the board. There is nothing in your post tpo indicate any relation to the infamous emmet_s, so don't worry about it. I can only state that as for EWR, there does **seem to be** a smoking area at the far end of the bar, concourse .. uh...dang...the one with Delta and Northwest...thin it's B. Just before gates 40-something to 46-something. Sorry to be so vague...but there were a lot of people smoking there, but I didn't see any ashtrays. I just joined them and no one said anything. Pleading ignorance here, but I will be able to say what the sitch (situation) is this coming Friday. Sorry to be so vague, but I'm just not sure. And, by the way, while I do smoke, and know it is very bad for my health, I will refrain from telling you to quit. It's your business, and I hope I can help to avoid your having a "nicotine fit." Again, welcome. |
EWR used to be one of the most smoker-friendly airports in the country. I haven't been there in 2 years. They've probably cut way back by now. Great airport, and I hear it will be even better when the current renovations are complete. I liked it so much, I took my free hotel-airport shuttle (5 min.) a few times just to hang out and have a beer in the evenings. (It beats the local bars) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for your friendly and helpful messages. I'm coming from heathrow on 16th november into terminal B. Just staying for 4 days as I haven't been to the states before and I thought I would have a flying visit to see a few sights and do a little prechristmas shopping. If everybody is as friendly as the last few people who left messages I'm sure it will be great.

"emjones"/liz- Please accept my most heartfelt apologies for the obviously failed attempt at humour above! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
And thank you, cigarman, for the "classy" demonstration of your vast vocabulary and immense wit, tremendous grace and ubiquitous charm! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif -Mark |
Doc, you asked for it. Shut up and take your lumps. The person was a brand new poster and you insulted them. Period, end of story. Remember, the "only travel talk" mantra? They had a real travel question. Did you attempt to help? NO. Did you make a stupid joke at the new persons expense? YES. Are you mad now, that they agree that you were rude...YES. Are you taking out on me...SURE.

The bad news you can hear in the overhead announcements "Welcome to Newark International: a smokefree airport."
I believe you cannot even smoke in the airline clubs. I know you cannot at the RCC, not sure about the President's Clubs. The one area that's ok to smoke, sorry to say, is OUTSIDE. If you can, and you have a club membership, leave your bags in a secure area of the club and go outside and smoke. I do NOT smoke but I wish that Newark (and JFK and LGA) would do like they did at LAX (maybe SFO too?) Smoking rooms: cubicles with seats where you can smoke among fellow smokers and cigarman can have his, well, cigars. Welcome to the boards emjones, and we look forward to your contributions. |
You can definitely not smoke at the Presidents Club

As hnechets already noted:

"emjones"/liz- Please accept my most heartfelt apologies for the obviously failed attempt at humour above! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And thank you, cigarman, for the "classy" demonstration of your vast vocabulary and immense wit, tremendous grace and ubiquitous charm! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif -Mark I made ABSOLUTELY no attempt to insult ANYONE- NOT by a long shot! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Not even you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif I can assure you that if I had, it would be far more obvious, as I assure you that I am quite capable! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Yet, if I did insult in some manner, rather than confuse as the poster, emjones, indicated, I apologize once again - profusely! Tired, distracted, cranky, or perhaps all of the aforementioned, I offer no excuses and clearly admitted making a mistake - and if that makes me a "Jacka** stoogie" then I'm in VERY good company and I can surely live with that! I DO hope that it is now clear! Better perhaps than to be perfect like you, which is impossible for me since I admittedly do not smoke http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And your response, cigarman, IS truly THE manifestation of the FT mantra to which you profess to subscribe! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Doc, I edited my post today three times. I toned it down each time to try to avoid getting into a war with you. Clearly you and snake were wrong not to answer a new posters question. Be it an insult or not, you did confuse the poster with your "joke". Did you help them? No. All that was accomplished was the aformentioned confusion and another post in your count. My point was and is, that new posters (in particular) should have their questions answered not confused or insulted. You will notice that my stooge remark was directed at both you and snake. It was a collective insult (by telling him not to smoke, he's a big boy i'm sure he knows the risk) by not only not helping, but disparaging his behavior (smoking). This is clearly demonstrated my his second post.
As for, your comment: "I DO hope that it is now clear! Better perhaps than to be perfect like you, which is impossible for me since I admittedly do not smoke." Clearly, I have never advocated to be "perfect" one must smoke. You keep using the "yeah, BUT..." defense. You are saying, Okay I was wrong, but cigarman was more wrong because he called me a name". Tell you what, I'm sorry for calling you and snake a name. I shouldn't have done it. No excuses. |
One last time for absolute clarity- my aforementioned post lacked quality, substance and most importantly the humour that was intended- "I'M SORRY"
I apologize to emjones, you and ALL FT'ers as well as any lurkers as well! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif And needless to say, your apology is warmly accepted! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
