Grenada anyone?

I admit I've been lurking for a while... but now I need some help! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I am wondering what Grenada is like - specifically for a honeymoon. I am considering going there, but have no idea where to start with accommodations, things to do and see, etc. Anybody have any tips?

And, if you think I'm nuts for wanting to go to Grenada, anybody have any other suggestions for places to go? I'm looking for places that are reasonably priced and not too "Americanized." Thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I have been there, thought it was several years ago. Very laid back atmosphere. White beaches. Cheap BEvERages http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Try searching the internet for hotels.

Thanks! Are there any hotels you would recommend? I have seen photos of some that look very nice, but of course, looks can be deceiving. Are there any guidelines to follow?

Was there 2 years ago, as the last couple days of my honeymoon. We had done a windjammer cruise that ended there. Don't recall the name of the hotel we stayed at (only 1 nite waiting for the flight) but it was between the airport and the main city (St Georges?) That area has the best beaches and hotels. I'd bet that Grenada has a tourist bureau in NY or DC. I'll see what I can dig up. It was a fun island that doesn't see alot of American tourists. Enjoy.

"...doesn't see alot of American tourists.."
but does have its share of American Medical students! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I was invited to lecture down there but declined -

my mistake! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

and my colleague has great pictures of the US invasion (1985 ?) and he made a bundle selling some to the news folks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Well, I'm hoping that we won't have an invasion while I'M down there! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated... I've found a few websites with photos and such, but I definitely don't want to mess this up! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Dvelata
Contact me by email with the names. I have a friend who knows the hotels there. He just returned from a 3 week trip to his homeland. I remember a few from my trip there but prefer to defer to him.

Thanks all for your help... I'm still open to suggestions, so if anybody else out there has any, I'm all ears! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

How about activities on the island? And, for that matter, what will travel be like down there? I'm afraid I'm going to have to do a lot of changing planes to get there from Colorado.

Try checking on www.itn.net for an idea of what your stops will be.

I finally heard from my friend who went to Grenada. It seems like he extended his vacation because he met a lovely lady while there. He is back home and plans to move to NY in a few weeks to be with her!

Email me and I will give you more detailed info on places to stay.

There was a long article on Grenada in the Travel Section of the New York Times last Sunday, 13 August.

As a youth in the 40's, I specialized in the collection of stamps from Grenada, and ofter corresponded with the postmaster at St. George, the capitol. I have often thought of going there; but St. Marteens is as close as I ever got to it. I recommend it as an alternative.

Where is St. Marteens? (Wow, no wonder I got a D in geography)! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

St Maarten - Dutch

St. Martin - French

Two sides of the same Caribbean Island! Both very nice! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
