It's quite common at one of the domestic gates at GLA for an airbridge to be used at the front and stairs at the back - very efficient.

They often do it with the Emirates B777-300ER arrival there too (weather permitting).

Albany (used to?) have a jet ridge that allowed for both boarding at the front and back. Was used by WN.

Overwing jet bridges! Schiphol has two.

I remember United tried this with TED (rar!) and it collapsed, trashing the wing of an A320.

I have to wonder if it didn't make other airlines skittish of using it. I don't believe United has attempted to use anything like this since then.

I think this is why Schipol is slowly getting rid of the over-wing jet bridges too. Schipol used to have a lot more. A KLM 777 was pushed back into one last year.

BA at EDI deplaned from the back. I LOVED dragging my rollerboard down the stairs, then back up a flight of stairs in the terminal.

I saw it happen at SMF.

I'm pretty sure BA permits passengers to check bags.

In years past I have been on various flights that had both rear boarding and alighting. On some of them the rear exit was underused upon arrival because it was easier to queue up for the front exit instead of swimming upstream a bit and then having a clear path to the rear exit. Plus more swimming upstream in both directions to fetch bags from the overhead not exactly centered above them.

And nowadays, boarding both front and rear would upset some airlines' delicate and intricate boarding zones.

Yeah, well if I'd known that EDI was going to be a step back into the 1960s, I'd have worn a suit, my fedora, sat in the smoking section and checked my bags.

Last Friday, my Turkish .air flight 8, IAD to IST, deplanned from front and rear onto buses on the ramp at IST…it was 37.5c at 1630!

So far as I know because the only planes it was able to be used for were the 747 which KL no longer uses (and the same for most other airlines), MD-11 (same) and the 77W. It's positioned wrong for pretty much anything else, including even the 772. Thus, for how limited their use has become, the cost of upkeep was too high. So they've been converting those gates to "normal" two-bridge gates for doors 1L and 2L instead.

To my knowledge none have ever collapsed, though of course accidents during pushback are always possible.

Something that Ryanair specialized in, doing everything possible on earth to make people getting off fast!

Seem Indigo in India is using both forward doors an the left rear one for the A320s and A321s.
