6'3", 34" inseam here. I take exit row seats whenever they're free or cheap, but there's more to it than pitch. It also matters how thick the seat is, plus whether and how it reclines.

The worst flight I've been on recently was a DL E175, which allegedly has a 31" pitch. I had to put my feet under the seat because there was no configuration that allowed my knees not to touch it, and when Moby Dick in front of me reclined, it was pretty miserable. Whatever seats UA has in their Airbus aircraft slide forward while reclining, saving my knees, while the seats in their Boeings don't. Y- on a 737 is definitely worse than a 320 and Y- on the new 10-across 777 layout is the only reason I try to keep UA status.

Meanwhile, Ryanair's seats are perfectly comfortable despite a 30" pitch because they're thin and don't recline. Same goes for TAP--Recaro slimline seats leave way more knee room than you'd otherwise get from the tight pitch--they're not really great on the posterior, but that's got nothing to do with my height.

Go for the extra leg room if you can get it

In non leg room seats I must have an aisle and have to keep my legs underneath the seat in front of me. If I sit normally my knees are jammed up against the seat in front of me. Forget about using the tray.

Apologies for going off topic slightly, but even before you get on the plane, do any other tall people have to duck whilst walking from the gate desks through the gantry air bridge to the door of the plane, for hanging signs or that in the gantry.

I also remember a good few years ago walking in London Heathrow for the BMI flights, I'd zig zag along the terminal, to avoid the low hanging bright yellow gate/information signs.

6'3" with a 34" inseam. I did alright on a 3.5 hr DL 757. The biggest thing for me was as soon as we took off, moved my backpack from under the seat in front of me to under my legs and put my feet under the seat.

6’ 6” and 280 lb, over 34” inseam, so the only place I fit is the premium and exit seats. If there’s no alternative then it’s an aisle seat where I get bumped by every passer by, bruised by the trolleys, and trip up the FA’s!
