The Official Delta Fly Swatter Cabin Divider Thread

This thread is for those who fly Delta in paid First Class, full fare or discounted, and who have an opinion to share about Delta's Fly Swatter cabin dividers. This thread is NOT for those who fly in Y, fly in F as an upgrade or on an award ticket.

Do you like the new Fly Swatter cabin dividers like those that have been installed on the newly mod'd 757's? Why, why not? Ideally what type of cabin divider would you prefer.

HVC's who fly in paid First Class, what do you think?

As the OP has asked "which airline/aircraft have the best cabin divider" this makes the thread more suitable for the TravelBuzz Forum.

As someone who flies up front from a mix of purchased tickets and upgrades, I'm curious why ONLY those who buy F/J would have an opinion on the dividers...

Especially since those if us in the back are the ones staring at the divider for the entire flight. Those sitting up front don't even see the thing unless they turn around to contemplate which type of partition they like best. Or stop to admire it on the way back to their seat after a visit to the lav.

I want a moat with gators and crocs to discourage coach passengers from using FC lavs and otherwise crossing up to the FC or business class cabin. If you keep enough big gators or crocs for them to reproduce, the babies will eat the flies.

As obscure of a thing that this might seem, count me in the camp that prefers having the hard class divider.

This seems to be one of the leftovers from the NW days. When NW began adding more seats in FC, the soft dividers seem to be the easiest way to add a row of FC/take out a row of Y without having to completely move seats on the track to repitch.

I don't like them because it looks cheap, and it seems like it does nothing to keep people from roaming into the F cabin to use the lav etc., and I think it creates an illusion that its more of a semi-private cabin. Though with increased usage of slimlines, trying to cram a row of seats, weight savings, etc. I'm thinking they will be more commonplace.

I'm not convinced that soft versus hard wall dividing cabins makes much difference. There's still just the see-through mesh curtain over the aisle, assuming that FAs remember to close it. A locked hard door would not be allowed for safety and I'm not sure whether even a velvet rope would be permitted, as some foreign carriers use, for example on the A380 staircases.

This is slightly off topic, but I think highly relevant. Are you one of those people who ask to see other passenger's boarding passes in first to make sure they "belong" there?

On my recent flights the FAs have rarely drawn the curtain, and it's been quite a while since I've even heard the "please use the lavatory in your cabin" announcement.

I've observed the same things. I do find it humorous when there is the one FA who insists that the curtain is closed and repeatedly closes it during the flight. The curtain won't stay closed on it's own or the other FA's don't care that it is open. I suppose it might keep people in Y from using the front lavatories but I don't really care if I see what is going on up front. It's not like there is some big secret amenity that people in Y can't know about on a domestic flight.

Great picture to go along with this thread ... ... (crickets)

Is there anything wrong with having it both ways, like VA does with their tinted plexiglas dividers?

The OP should start their own website for people who fly only paid F, since their opinions are apparently the only ones that matter.

Last time I checked, Flyertalk was open to all viewpoints.

DonCarpenter Jul 14, 2015 7:14 pm

What if your employer pays for F? It's paid for, but you didn't pay for it. Does your opinion matter?

No need to go to that length. Simple razor wire will do the trick.

I like a divider that is see through so that the suffering peons can watch the toga orgies we have in the front of the plane.
