Your apparent attempt at a comparison doesn't quite fly, why aren't you comparing a scary light skinned "European" male that ranted, took pictures, tried to get into the cockpit, got in a Scuffle and was escorted off the plane in handcuffs and then came back to continue on the flight.
Or are you just attempting to justify your opinions with an unrealistic comparison?? Because yes if it was a seventeen year old female either European or African ethnicity less people would have freaked out. You're free to compare what you want, but the difference in outcomes is based on the contrast. Given your last sentence above, that supports the recognition that the passenger was subject to a mix of sex-based racism? It seems to do that. In the real world, the application of racism does vary by sex and age. It doesn't mean the racism is any less real. |

Individuals commit individual bad acts, but it's certainly plausible that racism served as the underlying motive for individuals to cause bad acts in this case as well as in others - such as the killing of Treyvon Martin for walking in a white neighborhood carrying skittles and a soft drink.

There are a couple of types of racism. One is treating people differently purely because of their race. The other is accusing people of being racist without proof.

Mind-reading isn't required to determine that an individual or some group of individuals have behaved in a racist way. Racism can be evidenced by behavior/behavioral differences.
"Do you really believe a seventeen year old girl of only ethnic European appearance in the same circumstances as this guy would have had the same passengers and crew freaking out?" What is your answer to that question? It's not a strawman. I know the FT unofficial hobby is authoritatively speculating, but it is possible for people to have no opinion about the motives of random strangers we haven't met, and an incident we did not witness in person and only know about from a brief local news website.

Actually it is. You can see that they acted in a negative way to a "person of color" but you can *not* say that they did it because of the color of his skin.

Racist - baiting others by using language such as brown, white and sun-burned, scary brown men. I don't know that certain passengers on the flight were or were not racist as there really isn't enough information on their thoughts and actions however it is clear who is racist in reading through this thread. |

I would have no idea, as I wasn't there, nor were you, or any of us. We know scant facts at all about the situation. We don't even know the race of each of the passengers who deplaned, for that matter.

Exactly. ^ Forget speculation? It was paranoid speculators that got this "scary" "dark" "man" deplaned from this flight; it was the paranoid speculators that wanted off this flight, with some even getting off the flight -- after the authorities in two countries and the pilot said the "scary" passenger was cleared and acceptable for transport on this flight. |

Can't answer a question asked of you in this thread? It's about your beliefs. Too personal?

It was acutally skittles and arizona tea, two ingredients for purple dank and while it is certainly possible racism was or was not a motive it is also certainly possible that it was or wasn't intended for dank.

You blew it with that example. You are aware, or maybe not, that it was later proven that Zimmerman didn't know the race of Martin when he first started following him and that Martin initiated the fight. Racism was simply not part of the equation. Though a lot of people tried to make it part of the issue.
Nonsense - that was never "proven". The simple fact is, it was never PROVEN who started the fight, and frankly, it is entirely dependent upon what you define as "starting the fight". One civilian tailing another civilian who has every right to be in a public area is inherently a confrontational, threatening act, and THAT was the beginning of whatever fight subsequently occurred. The issue is not what he knew when he began to follow Martin - it's what he knew when he confronted him. And by then, he knew he was confronting a black male. Who was unarmed, who had as much right to be there as Zimmerman, and whom Zimmerman subsequently shot, after ignoring the instructions of the police dispatcher NOT to confront him. The fact is, Zimmerman initiated the fight by following someone who had every right to walk in the neighborhood without being tailed and confronted by a cop-wannabe. |

With all due respect, you have no idea if they had the "scary" man removed or the "scary dark" man removed.

That very well could be. But it was proven that he didn't do it because of Martin's race. On the 911 tape he said he wasn't sure and that he "thought" Martin was black. So regardless of who was right or wrong, racism wasn't the issue.
You have a very bizarre concept of what constitutes "proof" that racism was not a motivation in Zimmerman's actions that night. All that we actually know is that a crime by Zimmerman against Martin was not successfully proved to a jury of Floridians. |
Every human has racist "gene" buried deep inside ( save Gandhiji,Mother Teresa.....).
We have been trained, taught, brainwashed into not exhibiting yet it often peeks out at unguarded moments. In a meeting at a Fortune 500 a phalanx of white managers, decision makers were facing a group of minority franchisees. The head honcho directly asked if the group thought he was racist as all that was said by the minority came across as such. I am mature he did not expect an answer of yes! None would speak up for fear of retribution, finally one said, " sir, if you have to ask, if you think you are a racist, perhaps you are." See if you can tell if the shoe fits. For too long now we have swept this under the carpet under the guise of Politically Correct. Time to face the crazy uncle/ aunt in the attic. |
Many recent posts have strayed from any connection to travel and some have strayed toward debating the poster, personally, instead of discussing a travel-related topic. Two sure reasons for the thread to be closed. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
