how would you say it? Obviously English is not my native language :)

octopus pizza?

or is it simply a joke based on the second part? I am dense today....damn work.

I ate pizza with octopus in HKG...

Rather than eating pizza with octopus on it as you meant, he is saying you ate pizza while dining with someone named octopus. He is wondering why you kept the menu rather than let octopus (your dining partner) keep it.

You said it just fine. He was being funny.

Your English is fine. It was just a bad joke based on the inherent ambiguity of English grammar.

Like it or not, McDonalds is a part of local culture in many countries. And stopping in briefly for a mid afternoon snack isn't exactly taking much time out of your otherwise culturally enriching trip. By all means, go find the awesome fish! And let me know where, I'll want to go there too.

Not the countries that I visit, or else we have different definitions of local culture.

Looks like I hit a nerve. "Culturally enriching trip," indeed. I guess you don't know the meaning of, "to each his own," which is how I prefaced my post. I don't look down on your travel preferences; I just don't share them. That you would think it appropriate to mock mine says a lot.

I wouldn't eat in McDonald's in the US, and I certainly wouldn't do so when traveling internationally.

Uh, no, I don't think so.

You should not be concerned. First of all, almost guaranteed that lizard was fully cooked, so no complaints about parasites coming from raw meat. Secondly, it is a naturally occurring, organic protein in your lizardburger, contrary to pink stuff.

I apologize if I came across as mocking. That wasn't my intent at all. I was merely trying to point out that a quick McDonalds stop doesn't automatically make someone a tour bus, cruise ship, and Disney style traveler.
