Re: not stacking bins:
I was stacking them to make some room at LHR T5 once, and the security guy down the other end starting shouting, "DO NOT STACK THE BINS. SIR, DO NOT STACK THE BINS!" I just kept my head down in a "I no speak English" manner and carried on stacking. I mean, there was a huge pile-up, things were falling off the belt, and these guys were just ignoring it.

1. Temperature inside the terminal in excess of 25 C / 77 F. Nothing like working up a good sweat lugging your carry on to your connecting flight.
2. Terminals with inadequate windows, jet bridges that block the view, or windows with energy saving little white polka dots that obscure the view - found at the new TBIT at LAX.

This thread again? OK. I'll play.

Kettles who block the entire escalator or moving sidewalk rather than standing to the right as the rest of the world does by convention.

EWR Kettles, who upon being politely asked to move aside so that I can pass, mumble "Happy Monday ****hole!"

The problem with that is there is a genuine requirement not to stack the bins at LHR T5, as the automatic tray return system will not work with stacked bins. So while you may have sped up retrieval of bags for a couple of people, you did make more work for the clerk and you may have potentially stopped bins from getting back to the front of the line.

Believe me, they were "stacking" themselves anyway, just in a disorderly fashion, generally known as a heap. The net effect was that staff stopped gossiping about last night's telly and started sorting things out.

1. People who wait until it is their turn to go through security until remembering, oh yeah! You need to take your laptop out of your carry-on and the crap out of your pockets. Good thing you didn't do that during the last 15 minutes while we were waiting on line! Now we can wait a little longer.

2. People who insist on standing two abreast and blocking anyone who wants to walk past on the escalator or the moving walkway.

3. People standing 2 or 3 abreast post deplaning and making it impossible to get past them when you're in a rush to immigration.

4. The aforementioned lack of outlets for charging phones.

5. People who use the incorrect check-in lines, because they have decided they are entitled to use the first or business check-in even though they are in coach and have no status, thus forcing people for whom the line is meant to stand and wait.

To summarize, as someone did early in this thread..."people."

Express lanes that are slower than the "normal" lanes.

Well, not in Australia (and no doubt some other left-driving countries) - everyone stands of the left. :)

In left-driving London there is a convention on Tube escalators that everyone stands on the right, and lets the walkers go up the left. Anyway, it's simple courtesy in any situation not to block a narrow pavement or walkway by standing or waddling two abreast.

Anyone old enough to remember when riding bikes as kids that we were taught "no riding two abreast on public roads if there is any other traffic about, and no riding three abreast ever" ?

It's always entertaining to watch the crowds at HNL making their way through the terminal with the Americans usually trying to walk on the right and the visitors from Japan et al trying to walk on the left.

Happens all the time in UK/Europe. It's a strange carry-over from driving left or right that pedestrians tend (mostly) to also favour the same side . A further corollary is that you'll tend to swerve that way to avoid collision, which leads to many "Sorry!" "Sorry!" moments with oncomers from across the water.

How about the reverse? At least one of the terminals at FLL used to have several food option outside security but the only food option inside security was a place that sold pre packaged deli sandwiches (like the type you buy at convenience stores)....

Terminal 4 at FLL has those sandwiches plus a Nathan's and (I think) a Dunk'n Donuts. It's so uncomfortable in that terminal. It's always crowded and noisy, the air doesn't circulate, and there are very few outlets. It has no redeeming architectural features. The lines for Nathan's and Dunk'n Donuts are always very long. At least FLL has free wi-fi, though. All airports should offer free wi-fi.

For some reason, FLL orders flights by departure time on their display boards. I find my flight info much quicker when the flights are ordered alphabetically by destination.

A significant part of the world (e.g., most if not all of Asia) does it by time.

People that think lines don't apply to them and should know better.

The reason I was peeved with T5 was after a 3 + hr drive to the airport..... I discovered the person I was meeting was on a very delayed flight, which of course I was unaware of before I set off, and couldn't answer my phone en route........

So having been on the road for over 3 hrs, and a 3 hr wait which would cover dinner time, all I wanted was somewhere decent to sit down for a nice meal. Alas Carluccios is one of the worst examples of the chain with filthy tales and indifferent staff, and a pub is not somewhere a driver wishes to sit for 3 hrs......

And when you want a proper meal, sandwiches and coffee don't really hit the mark!

Now airside in T5 - how many different eateries are there???

Sit in a pub, make the arriving party drive. Problem solved.
