Looking to improve the passenger experience!

Hi there,

I work for an industrial design firm doing research on passenger/flight attendant experiences. I’d like your feedback on what works, what doesn’t, and what can be improved.
I'd like to start some discussions with folks who could shed some light on these issues.

For starters, I would like to know:

1. What type of airline/aircraft do you like to fly on…? Why…?
◦ Any positive and/or negative experiences/examples you could share?

Cheers

You have to actually frame some direct questions if you want any data you can actually use.

Welcome to FT!
With respect, I'm having trouble believing any credible commercial operation would conduct its business (research) in this manner. The question is vague and is not framed or structured to elicit any meaningful data.

Love Airbuses due to the fact they appear to have more legroom. Hate 767s even with the 2-4-2 seating down the back. Will try really hard to avoid long haul on 767 unless I'm in J, and even then I'm meh about it.

Love the rocket that is the 757 but that's just because of the enthusiastic take off :D

Love upstairs on the 747. Smaller cabins are better than bigger ones.

What kind of experiences?
Hard product, soft product?

What's the context, what's your goal?

Hi Researcher,

Too lazy to dig up the aircraft, but imagine zillions of people squished together, no space to stand (no room near the bulkhead), two teeny restrooms for I think 138 economy passengers, and an eight hour flight. That's what I call a nightmare.

HYGIENE. Yo. Clean the godd*** planes! Gasp. Yes, steamvac and sterilize them between each flight. It's disgusting.

Make restrooms larger and more hygienic (no touch water faucets, and maybe air dryers if that could work on a plane).

Give us space. the minimum legroom in economy should be 34 inches seat pitch. The minimum. Not all of us fly business/first and we are still human.

Thanks.

industrial design for fa/pax relations?

50% of pax & fa's are below average imho.....

I'd suggest partnering with a blogger or creating a survey and posting a link on FR so that we can actually provide meaningful responses to, without taking too much time. Good luck!

Long haul Boeings (747/777) over long haul Airbii because they fly faster.

Long haul configs with 2-5-2 in Y over 3-3-3 or 3-4-3.

Took UA's flight 46 IAH-FRA the other night on a 767-400 in E- even and thought it was surprisingly nice. Comfortable seats, good IFE (crappy food). YMMV, but it was much nicer than the 747-400 I took on my last UA TATL, SFO-FRA

Economy seating with lack of space and little recline, is the single worst thing about flying. Even more than the TSA. It is particularly bad if you are flying internationally. (Some premium economy is okay because the seats are better, if not business, but some is just regular economy seats with a few extra inches of space.)

I'd suggest paying people to participate in your survey for commercial purposes. You should also hire an expert in the design of surveys.

Understood if this is too vague for some. I am really trying to get idea of if passengers or FAs prefer a particular type of aircraft, or fly on particular airlines due to the improved experience it gives them in flight. More interested in starting a discussion about it, not necessarily looking for hard data points.
Thanks for your time!

More legroom in economy is all I really ask for. Service, food, IFE, are only secondary to me. More space is the primary reason why I opt to fly in premium cabins.

Most wide bodies are ok, some better than others. What I don't like are RJ's, hate those with a passion.
