TSA Pre

My home airport just implemented the TSA Pre program. Is anyone a member of the TSA Pre program? What is the best way to secure the status if you aren't invited via an airline? Any downsides to enrolling?

The easiest way to become eligible for Pre-Check if not invited by the airline is to apply for NEXUS or Global Entry. Once approved you will get a Trusted Traveler PASS ID that you can add to your resevations.

While this thread is about Pre-Check for United, it contains a lot of info that applies to all airlines:

As there are a number of active threads on TSA's Pre-Check in the Practical Travel Safety Issues forum (see, e.g., http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/pract...2-tsa-pre.html -- which has links to other threads), I'll close this and invite more discussion in one of the PTSI forum threads.
