Very disappointing - in any thread about kids on planes, it's customary for the "drunk obnoxious businessman" (or similar) response to be made within the first ten posts. You also failed to mention snoring.

Yes, that one always brings a tear of sympathy to my eye ;)

It's especially "haaaarrrrd" when cheapskate parents refuse to buy their 22-month-old child a seat and somehow think their neighbors should all join in the suffering of their child perched ever-so-miserably on their lap.

i have never been on a flight with a disruptive drunk, a loud snorer, or an obnoxious "do you know who i am?"(unless "they" are describing me).

i have been on a number of planes with the disruptive child issue

i remember you. i sat next to each you!! drunk again. and you did not think i to be important at all.

but that was only once on your 3000 flights, or so. what about the schreeming kids? my worst kid flight was when BA was moving 10-15 russian orphan babies from russia to usa. none could handle the diet change. all had bad tummy aches, and serious diarrhea.

i knew two different families that did a russian adoption.. well worth the stench.

I really wish airlines would either eliminate the lap baby rule or adjust the age downward for this reason. Any baby who can walk (and plenty who are just crawling) is too squirmy to be a lap child. 12 months would be a more reasonable cutoff.

I say this is a mother of a three year old who has flown with her dozens of times. I've always bought her a seat, except for one Southwest flight that was just an hour long (it was half empty and we got a whole row for the two of us anyway).

Parents like this give those of us who are trying really hard to be considerate of others a bad name.

And what about safety? If those "extension seatbelts" are good enough for aircraft then why does the same kid have to be in a proper "baby seat" when in an automobile? Or, more to my point, if the "baby seat" is mandatory in cars then why isn't it on aircraft?

Why doesn't the world adjust itself to my needs? Don't They Know Who I Am?

As a sideline, I had an uncle who spent a considerable amount of time in a Japanese POW camp. He'd be quite amused at this thread. Or not.

Wait a minute.... 28 posts and no one has posted to say how cruel and insensitive the comments here are. Personally rebelyell and pinworm, I've been on several flights such as you describe.

So far as I'm concerned it is up to parents to bear any costs in noise, space, bad behaviour, cost of extra seat etc., of their children, and not inflict those onto others. We all understand and sympathize that there can be occasions where despite a parent's efforts some disturbance to others is caused. But there are too many occasions where parents seem to expect that the costs of their children are socialized and that they have a right to expect others to bear these costs.
