Well, let's face it, the 747 is an enormous phallic symbol and the A380 is more like an engorged tick

Do you find the A380 to be one ugly plane? I mean, usually I think of airplanes as pretty but the A380 just looks...ungainly. Like a crippled stork or something.
It's not about size. I think the 747 is iconic and graceful and beautiful. But the A380 just looks...not quite right. Thoughts? As long as it gets me there safely, in relative comfort, I don't care what it looks like. |
+1 The last 380 I was on was certainly more comfortable than the last 747.
One may spend minutes looking at an aircraft... but one spends HOURS inside it...;) Anyway.. my favourite aircraft are all... "functionally ugly"... The DHC Twin Otter and the A-10 fr'nstance! :D |
Is it another Boeing vs Airbus thread?
Boeing fails to darken windows dark enough on the dreamliner elicits a counter attack,. Airbus 380 is ugly. Next round. :D |

I love the the beefy look of an A380, just blows away the 787, the "pencilneck" of contemporary aircraft.
But then I suppose my view is a little prejudiced! Worldspan (powerlifter/competitive bodybuilder) |
On a side note, one of my favourite aircraft, the B-52 Stratofortress (made by Boeing) is a great looking bird IMO but it's also known as s BUFF (big ugly fat f**ker).

I might never see a A380 in person. About my only chance is to have one clip the tail of the regional jet I'm on.

airbus a380 is class act
i would disagree a380 is ugly....i will travel on one lax to cdg in sept....with 500 other people.....this a380 looks awsome with its 2 decks and super quite ride....air france got the ea engines on their planes....i was a 747 fan all life but this mamoth of plane airbus a380 is a real wonder....72 meters long and 80 meters wide....until you are in front on runway in united express prop plane and see it behind you cant imagine....also cool wing design of composite plastic...

Some years ago I attended the Farnborough airshow in England on business back when the A380 was first being introduced. I had the opportunity to walk right up to the nose and look up at it.
I have to admit it looked quite ugly from that perspective. Talk about a large, ungainly Gallic nose! Kinda reminded me of Gen. De Gaulle..... However, Airbus then performed a flying demonstration with the A380. It looked almost graceful as it soared over the airfield in a series of choreographic banks and turns. But I also have to admit that I find the new passenger version of Boeing 747-8 to be a very elegant and beautiful looking airplane. |
I've flown both the A-380 (LH) and the 747 (any number of air carriers ).
They are both ugly. I flew a JU-52 on JU-Air. That's beautiful. To each his own. |
Well, it's a matter or subjective tastes. I too find it ugly. That, and the Boeing 757. I hate that snub-nosed look.
However, I find the A380 beautiful ON THE INSIDE!! |
She's ugly when you see her; but she's a great ride! :D
(I flew F on LH on the A380.) |
