Royal Brunei Airlines - DXB-BWN from Y to J.
The flight was massively overbooked a few days out from Christmas and I had to sit on my mother's lap for take-off because there weren't any seats left in Y. The cabin crew moved my mother and myself into J shortly after take off. |
Somehow I'm still waiting for my first op up even though I've had to opportunity to fly upfront on almost all of my international flights
|
First and definitely the best (though I have been very lucky over the years with Op-Ups).
SYD-LAX, Jan 1998 - coming back with parents in tow from a family wedding, upgraded from Business (or Connossieur) on UA to First. This was in the days of Rack of Lamb cut at your seat, Dom, lobster, caviar, etc. I was thoroughly impressed and it took me a few years to get back into international F after that. |
LAX-LAS* back in 2002
Was flying SFO-LAX-LAS and went out for smoke at LAX and when I got to the gate to ask if the flight was oversold, she said "yes, in the back". She asked to see my bp where she then responded with "oh, I was looking for you" and handed me an already printed F bp :D *back when UA flew mainline LAX/SFO-LAS |
First one for me was SIN-BKK on LX from Y to C. This was right after hitting 1P for the first time, and I'd only flown in F once before up to that time on ORD-MCO, so I got to see what proper flying was.
I did very well that same year as a 1P with an op-up from C-F on NH and Y-C on NGO-SFO. Since becoming 1k the only opup I've gotten was on SIN-HKG on UA. |
LGW to ATL.
Booked with an AMEX 2 for 1 in CW. Upgrade at check in, told to go to the F lounge and was greeted by lounge dragon with 'ah, Mrs & Mrs Stuart101 we have been waiting for you, please enjoy the lounge'. Great trip, loved F on BA, and still do:) |
First and only to date -- Summer 2009, flying on the AC redeye YEG-YYZ as a UA Premier Executive. Was summoned to the podium shortly before boarding and informed that I was being given a courtesy upgrade to first class (two-class aircraft). Two glasses of wine and the extra legroom made grabbing a few hours sleep en route to Toronto much easier.

Back on topic, here's a story I remember. 1999. Flying Y LGA-GSO with my Mother and three year old sister. None of us has US status though we did have our DM FF#s on the reservation. We showed up at LGA and were told the flight was cancelled. The agent offered us LGA-PIT-GSO and casually mentioned PIT-GSO was operated by a "19 seat propeller plane". At this my Mom had a fit and said there was no way she was flying on such a plane. When my Mom gets started on things like this, she's very intimidating and persuasive. To make a long story short, they rebooked us LGA-CLT-GSO in First! The LGA-CLT flight (DC-9-30) even had a cold breakfast on it and CLT-GSO was on a lovely old Fokker-100. Ended up being the best part of the trip, though wow was it hard to end up back in Y on the way home. Oh yeah and even though I was 13 years old at the time, I remember being very pleased when I got my Dividend Miles statement in the mail and I got bonus miles for the First Class flights :D |
On a regional CX flight from HKG-MNL. My flight from JFK arrived into HKG late due to weather conditions in JFK and missed my connection. The ground staff arranged to get me and those who missed their connection on the next available flight. Apparently, once we disembarked, the flight was already boarding.

Back in 2005 flying EWR-MAN on CO. The gate agent walked over to my seat and said "Are you travelling alone?" I said yes, and she handed me a new boarding pass in bizfirst. That was a year before I got my first status on Co
