Dulles has its low points... just plain sad...

Kansas City

Kansas city's airport is awful. I live here, and have to endure it. You check in to TSA, and if your plane is late, or you just want to walk around, you have to recheck into the TSA. Unacceptable. I'd rather drive to St. Louis, and fly from there. There is not many places to eat, (Like in Dallas, or even Little Rock).

And at night, it's dead. It's scary. They need to redo KCI. There's hardly any working outlets. The coffee is from a carafe, if you want water, or a decent bathroom, you have to go beyond security, and then check back in.

Kansas City!

"On December 18, 2008, the Kansas City Council approved a master plan for the airport which included a call for an extension of Tiffany Springs Road (to be called Tiffany Springs Parkway) between I-29 and I-435 as well as improvements to Missouri State Route 152 for the new terminal on the south side of the airport by 2025"

I was just complaining about that, I have to endure it once again on Sunday. It is clear out beyond anything. I have to beg for rides out to it. It's dreary at night. And in 2025, I'm 50 now....I might be retired from this job, but knowing them, they'll still be flying me all over the place, lol. Tiffany springs? That's excellent and makes my day! I live in Independence, anything would be an improvement.

HNL has undergone a bit of renovation, but will probably never lose its old "charm" -- no idea why Hawaii airports are so bad (with LIH leading the pack imo). French Polynesia is also pretty shocking; why can't a super-expensive place like BOB have a halfway decent airport?

Is the Comair terminal at CVG still a shack in the middle of the airport ?

No make that a warehouse, at least a shack has windows.

I grew up in Hawaii, where I was flying in and out of LIH every weekend back when the airport was really old school, like asphalt for floors and chain link fence for waiting areas where all customers would get blown away by the plane's prop wash as the plane taxis out of the gate area. Add to that was no protection against the noise of the Rolls Royce Dart turboprop engines during startup. That was an environmental hazard. It makes the LIH terminal today look ultra modern and luxurious. :D

How could I have forgotten about this?

At IAH in Terminal A, the A3-A through -G gates used by Colgan turboprops operating as United Express.

And also at IAH in Terminal B, the B84-A through -S gates used by United Express RJs.....

Very basic and quite ugly with no amenities whatsoever.....both of these "concourses" are nothing more than shacks....it's kinda like walking through a linear barn.

OTOH, the other terminals at IAH, including Term E as well as the southside of Term A, are not too shabby.....

I'll have to say that LGA's UA/AA terminal is still a hole. The roof leaks, there are precious few amenities after security, and it's just generally run down.

Similar to jlemon's thoughts about IAH, I've had RJ-to-RJ connections at SLC where I felt like we were in a third world bus terminal.

In fact, I just assumed that all of SLC was a complete dump until I did an RJ-to-mainline connection once and realized that the rest of the airport is a bit more modern...

Perhaps, but I landed there at 2AM to make an unscheduled fuel stop, and they called in staff to man the snack bar and duty-free shop! long live the '60s, in that case.

then you may enjoy a United/Continental flight out of ABE where the first leg is an actual bus to EWR.

However, I think certain areas of the MSY terminal would greatly benefit from some sprucing up....@:-)

Geez...I was actually kind of impressed with MSY! Especially in recent years, it seems too big for the traffic passing through it. I like Nola, though, so maybe I miss some negatives.

Yes, evenings in the French Quarter are quite nice this time of year before the summer heat and humidity get going big time.....in fact, we'll be down that way this coming weekend.

And I also remember arriving at SAT back around 1970 or so on board a Trans-Texas Airways (TTa) Convair 600 turboprop.....I seem to recall the gate was of the open air type of arrangement and I definitely remember the floor of the gate area was covered with swarming crickets! No problem, though....we managed not to slip as we crunched through them while walking into the indoor section of the main terminal.....

GOI wasn't that great. The lounge smelt really bad we had to leave it ( and it really wasn't worth staying either way) .
