DOOR SLAMMING...DOOR SLAMMING...DOOR SLAMMING...
understandable if it happens from time to time...people forget the doors close by themselves, or are thinking of something else, don't travel much, etc. But, those who are repeatedly in and out and let the door slam each time drives me nuts. I've even called the front desk in the past to ask them to call the guest of the door...not sure it made that much difference since many FD employees don't tend to really care much (see other posts).

I've been in a number of hotels with this, all in Europe IIRC. Some have the bathroom door do double duty to accomplish it.
Noise (slamming doors) is my biggest peeve, but mitigated by silicone earplugs ($5 at the drugstore). Of course, should the hotel catch fire I'm toast  . |
When I was younger I found it amusing but when a couple are "noisly getting it on" , these days I find it irritating.
In Newark, New Jersey (a CO flight the following morning) I clearly heard a woman say " Oh yes f--- me in the a--" - tedious. As I said, when I was younger it amused me. |

Addendum: I forgot #4 - Connecting room doors. Always seem to get unwanted noise from my "neighbors." How hard would it be to design most rooms without these unneeded features (or relegated them all to a single floor - all families with kids would end up there :) ) Also agree with the noisy slamming door locks....number 2 on my hate list. Most other things I can handle. |
It surely can not be that difficult for hotels to allocate families with small children on one floor.

1. Not refilling the mini-bar, especially water
2. Never enough power outlets, or all outlets in inconvenient locations. I'd like to charge my phone by the bed, not across the room. 3. Annoying staff who NEVER leave you alone. This is the difference between a FS, RC, etc... and an Aman. At the later, the staff never bother you, they know when the room is open and make it up then, at the former I feel like i'm getting up every 15 minutes to decline service or be asked if my stay is ok...HINT: It'd be a lot better if you left me alone! 4. Internet charges at 5-star hotels. If the $90 a night hotel can offer free wi-fi, please explain why I have to pay $500+ for the room and $20+/day for internet? So tacky. [QUOTE=Camflyer;18073421]

I had always assumed that the slot required a hotel keycard but if *any*plastic card works then that's fantastic. I'll have to try that. I don't mind the key slots themselves - it makes it harder to lose the key card in the room but it is annoying that you cannot leave something recharging while you pop down to breakfast.

Bathrooms:
1) Varying water temperature in the middle of the shower. 2) Low shower water pressure. 3) Not replacing a half empty bath gel. 4) Stupid stupid half plastic barrier by the shower in Europe - always creates a mess in the bathroom. What is the problem with European hotels? Rooms: 1) No/not enough power outlets near bed. 2) No coffee maker in room. Exorbitant room delivery charges for just a single coffee in the morning. 3) Improper restocking of coffee and supplies. 3) No iron in room. (Europe) 4) Hotel bar closing early and no mini-bar in the room. 5) HD TVs, but no HD signal. |

If you're really annoyed by the sounds coming from a close room, whether snoring, sex, whatever, try calling the room directly. It's usually easy to figure out the phone number based on the room number. Hang up when they pick up, or ask for "Chuck." "Sorry, wrong room..." |
Not being allowed to check in after check in time and being fobbed off with "we were full last night". Naturally if I want to check out late the next night I'll be given a firm no

My pet peeve is hotel staff disturbing me to ask whether I really mean my "do not disturb" sign. Maids pound on the door to check whether anyone is in the room or someone will call the room for the same purpose. Can't they see that it's not yet my checkout time?
Alarm clocks that were set by the previous guest and not turned off when the room was cleaned. That stupid remote control where the batteries never work. Oh, speaking of the TV, could you leave me a list of the local channels please? Mike |

Not a fan of the "pillow wannabees". 3 or 4 half size pillows in soft and med. Just give me two full size pillows on the bed and I'll be very happy.

I don't like having an envelope left for me to leave a tip for the maid. Why not just pay them properly and include it in my room rate?
I also don't like when the TV defaults to the hotel's adult selection. Just put the normal TV, and if I'm desperate enough to want to watch the adult channel, then I'll select it myself. There also seems to be a general inability to clean the carpet anywhere other than the most accessible places. Several times when moving a vase/fridge/table, I come across ten years worth of carpet dust. And occasionally an old pizza. And to concur with previous posters, I'm no fan of the following: Connecting doors Pointless messages from the front desk Inoperable heating / air conditioning Air conditioning units that operate at more than 120db Black bathroom mould |
Nightstand on one side of the bed only.
Light switches on one side of the bed only. |
Only ever heard any couples at it in one hotel and that was from the corridor when walking to my room one night ;)
My pet hates, already mentioned I bet: The room keycard in the slot by the door. 50 near-by light switches that don't turn off the one light above you that only seems to work from the door. No light in the doorway. Coffee makers- want a kettle, not a coffee maker! Mini-bars that lock themselves sometimes when you store your own drinks /food. Excessive pillows that take up half the room when you throw them off the bed. Roomkeeping who expect you to be out by 8am and not return all day. No power sockets anywhere near the bed so you can't plug you phone into charge or wake you up etc. Ice machines in the corridor that seem to run at 200dB (luckily never been near one but they are noisy are hell when walking down corridors). Fans that seem to run all night. |
Bedside lights that are under 100 Watts (and not on both sides). I like to read in bed and mood lights do not suffice.
