15) TranStar, which was formerly Muse Air operating MD-80s, DC-9-50s and maybe even one DC-9-30 if I remember correctly. Southwest Airlines acquired Muse Air and then changed the name to TranStar. Lamar Muse was formerly with Southwest but then started his own airline. WN subsequently shut Transtar down. BTW, I flew Muse Air several times between California (LAX), Texas (AUS & HOU), Louisiana (MSY) and Florida (MIA). It was a great airline! |

I'm sorry, cs57, it was United. It was a great service in its day, much more elaborate than any of the so called "First Class" services being offered to the islands today. Catering was inspired by Trader Vic's and the Mai Tais remain amongst the finest I have ever had anywhere.

BTW, I goofed up a bit with my answer, I think, as I believe Frontier's service at this time was offered on their B727-100 aircraft as I do not believe they operated the 72S at that point. What say you, Seat 2A? |
While I'm pretty sure Frontier operated its 727s into the early 1970s (I think the last of them was sold to Braniff iin 1972) I'm not sure of the timeline on Petroleum Club services. The 727-100s arrived in 1966 and the -200s came online in 1968. So far as I know, the 727s were always operated in a two class configuration, so that might suggest the PC service extended to the 72S flights as well. By the time I started working at Frontier, we were strictly standard class 737-200s, CVR-580s and a couple of DH6s.
