Only one on the plane
I mostly travel intra-Alberta on Dash-8s. I have probably done 200 segments in the last 3 years on Dash-8s. I recently experienced a situation which I haven't had before: I was the only passenger on the plane. The flight was the last flight of the day YEG-YYC. I had a checked bag and once arrived at the gate in YYC the ground crew simply handed my checked bag to me on the tarmac.
Anyone else have the plane to themselves? |
I only experience that in my dreams. Wonder why they did not cancel that flight.

Wow - your own private aircraft. Kewl! ^
So how was the service on board? ;) |
Did they upgrade you to "J" ? if there is such a thing on a Dash 8

Not an entire plane but the entire upper J deck on an NH 747 HKG-NRT. Great, attentive service and my sake kept on getting refilled before I even realized it. It came to a point where I just told her "no more!". :)

Happened once to me between YQB and YUL 3 or 4 years back. I was actually try to get an earlier flight without change fee, but the GA at YQB will not do it... :(

Once I did a PVR-YYZ in J all alone, only 2 or 3 people in the back... Serivce was great. They timed the meal to whenever I got hungry. |
i used to do GVA - BCN quite a bit and although i've never been the only person on the small airbus, i do remember a flight when there were three of us on board and many flights when there were fewer than ten pax.
|
I'm sure there was a similar thread a ways back
1984 or thereabouts, Kunming to Rangoon (I figure I'm better off not posting the codes in this case), couple of Chinese generals in the front, me in the back. |

In the early 70s, I remember a CZL-MRS flight, AF Caravelle, Y only, maybe seven pax. More FAs than passengers.

Not to myself, but I've been on a few US PHL-LGA commuter flights with no more than 5 or 6 pax on board, of which a few were airline employees.
|
An NH 763 ER from FUK to KIX, just me and 8 flight attendants and 2 pilots. Plane took off like a rocket ! I sat where-ever I wanted, and got to sit in the cockpit over Shikoku, Island. :)
|
I had a private plane to myself maybe 5 years ago. YOW - YUL. Last flight of the night. I checked in, went to the bathroom near the gate, came out, and the gate attendant came out and said; Mr DuckBill, your private plane awaits.
Yeah, I just chatted with the FA. She said, when there are no passengers they'll play music over the speakers, and she'll be in the cockpit. |
Not only one, but recently there were only 8 pax on ZRH-MUC with an LX Avro. When I came to the gate, there were only 2 of us, but they expect 8 more. However, only 6 of them turned up. There was nothing special except that they told everybody (actively) they can move to a different seat if the want (the seats assigned were all in just two rows in Y) ...
|
YUL-YOW for me. I was actually flying YUL-YOW-YYZ, using only 1 Rapidair flight pass credit, and doubling my miles/segments. :)
Really, when you think about it, it's only a 2hr drive. I would imagine very few people would fly this route, except maybe to catch a connection somewhere else. |
1987 Christmas day (Friday) evening YQG YYZ on AC DC9. Needed to be on duty next morning.

No but I was on a TATL AMS-LGA on an all biz class....
....OPEN SKIES flight with only 9 passengers aboard.
....even with so few passengers they still screwed up the meal service (my food was partially frozen when served). |
During the first Gulf War I flew on a UA 747 from USA to Asia ( probably Seoul) with
no more than 60 pax total on board, I was the only one in F, and there was 1 pax in C. |
YYZ-YMM Solo in J packed in the back. I had 1:1 FA service in a (then) brand new E90
|
Have been on Dash-8 as the only passenger. Have been on SQ J as one of 2 passengers--the extra attention can be somewhat uncomfortable.

yup, I definitely recall this happening some years after I was born, not before. IIRC it was a twice monthly flight; definitely had some of the romance of an earlier day about it. |
This happened to me a number of times in the early 1990s, flying back in a Dash 8 from YYT-YAY on Sunday evenings. Perhaps that's why AC doesn't fly there anymore...
|
7 of us on a Northwest 747 from ORD - LGA, we had 2 FAs each. It had come from NRT and everybody got off at ORD, the 7 of us got on. We tried but couldn't drink the plane dry, even with the cabin crew cheering us on.
|
also in Dash 8 all by myself from Peace River to High Level--guess that's why they don't fly that route anymore!
|
3 on an AA E135 BOS-YYZ. We all had to sit towards the back for weight and balance
|
I flew YQR-YYZ on an E90 once. There were nine passengers. Two of them were my travelling companions. That's not quite as exciting as being alone on a flight, but we had more empty seats than your flight did. :)

Hi
It has to be about 12/13 years ago. Flew Gatwick to Islamabad on a BA 747 (I believe) was the only passenger in J. Backend was full. |

Given the length of the flight (USAF can't fly over Iran for obvious reasons), the flight crew was pretty good to us. We got microwaved pizza and access to their cooler of soft drinks. :D |

In 1994 I flew CCS-GIG in a Varig B767 with no more than 20 passengers on it. The golden times when they would allow you in the cockpit during flight...

While I wasn't by myself, it was a Dash 8 and there was probably 5 or 6 of us on board. The flight attendant said loudly "Does anyone speak french?" we all said "no" and her response was "Great! No french announcements today!" and she did the entire flight in English.
It was appreciated, but I got a feeling it was breaking the rules and she could of got in trouble. This was probably around 2001. |
4 passengers on a United Express CRJ-700 from SFO-YYC. And to think they were still trying to sell upgrades at $400+ a piece at check-in, lol.
