I like to have at least my blackberry connected to onflight internet.. if extra long flight.. I'll pull my laptop out and use wifi..

Long haul
- I always have an extra t-shirt and pair of socks. After 20+ hours of transit, it feels great to change my socks.
- I usually bring some digestive biscuits for a snack (I get bloated on flights, so the digestive biscuits seem to help)
- My 10 inch Acer Timeline X (netbook size, but real computer with i5 processor that runs about 7 hours on a single charge)

It's not the type of kit mate, it's the amount.

1) Nose decongestant.
2) Cough drops
3) Vitamins, painkillers etc
4) MP3 player
5) Netbook
6) Tablet (not going to check it if I take it). Might as well have it topped up with movies too.
7) Cell phone with good camera and flight mode
8) Chargers for everything
9) Water bottle - empty while going through security
10) Extra food. Almonds was a good tip. Might use that instead of my old choice.
11) At least one device that can be used for E-books, fully tanked with books and charged. Any device with touchscreen usually has software for that.
12) Travel blanket
13) Hoodie
14) Contacts and glasses
15) High quality eyeshade
16) Inflatable pillow - just upgraded to fleece type.
17) Extra collapsible bag to put odds and ends in under the seat, while the roller suitcase stays in the overhead bin
18) Toothbrush, toothpaste and other toiletries.
19) Chewing gum

^. For the flight itself, some reading material. For the possible delay, an overnight kit, including change of shirt, underwear, socks. I don't need all of the comfort or sleep products that some find necessary - noise doesn't bother me that much - but I have experienced enough irrops that I always have an overnight kit in my carry-on. Part of keeping an open mind for me is planning for problems so that they won't disrupt me to much.

Onflight.. I noticed that my family wanted to hear music.. so have my laptop bag, instead of buying 2 or 3 sets of earphones again for $3 apiece.. I dug into the laptop case and pulled out headsets I purchased from a previous flight..

My 5 year old son kept himself occupied, and my wife and I were able to select music channels or watch the inflight movie..

My entourage.

Macbook- I blog a bit and I send letters to friends. Plus journalling the flight can be interesting
iPod- Well I kinda want to listen to my music.
Parka- In case the blankets suck because I have a furry swim parka.
Flip flops- not exactly the safest shoes, but the most flexible.
Passport- Long haul is usually an international flight!
Pen- To fill out those custom forms
Hairband- tie hair up.

Mention of a passport.. a no brainer.. and my kids.. well definitely can't forget them since I'm a responsible parent..

Throw in my laptop bag, camera.. diapers, wipes.. especially with a toddler and small child

After a bunch of tpac flights the last few years, I've honed in on a pretty consistent list:

Noise-cancelling headphones (I use the AudioTechnica ones)
iPhone
Eyeshade
A good book
Inflatable neck pillow (I preferred ObusForm until mine popped, now I'm using Lewis and Clark)
Basic meds: Decongestant, Advil, anti-gas (don't want to be "that guy" in case the airport food doesn't agree with me!)
Hand sanitizer, lip balm and small-sized deodorant
Lightweight jacket
Snack food
Water bottle (may not be possible if flying into the USA)
Pen
Notebook
Passport
