Passport, Kindle, Pen, Water.

travelmad478 Aug 18, 2011 11:21 am

iPod and noise-blocking earphones
pashmina and thick socks for over-air-conditioned planes
earplugs
stack of New Yorker magazines
BA-issue pajamas
lip balm
eyeshades

In flight, the above is all I need. I travel carry-on only, but the rest of it never leaves the overhead bin.

I-pod
I-Touch
Kindle
Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones
Netbook
Nintendo DS
Airplane Power devices to run above.
Extended Batteries if no airplane power

I had a 12-hour flight this week. I carried a few basic items in my bag, but later decided that I would've been fine with just the passports/money belt -- and tampons (so increadibly glad I didn't forget them).

paperback book...

My list of necessities stems from my fear of flying and wanting to have a number of ways to distract myself should the need arise.

Kindle (before the Kindle age I would have 5 or 6 books in my carry on)
One or two of my favorite books (small, paperback)
Ipod and charger (additional battery pack just in case)
Shure Earbuds
Computer and power adapter
Many of my favorite DVDs (and one or two I've wanted to see) in case the IFE is out
A bottle of water
Alleve or Advil
A warm sweatshirt or sweater
Warm socks
A notebook and pen
Vodka
Lip balm
Tempurpedic eye mask

I guess I'm either the only chocoholic here, or the only one dependent on the pathetic "edibles" in Y! I always bring my own theobromines, to be on the safe side.

Hmm. Let's see off the top of my head...

-iPad
-iPhone
-MacBookPro or netbook
-noise canceling headphones
-Camelbak water bottle
-bottle of ibuprofen and naproxen
-snacks (mints, chocolate, etc)
-gum for takeoff and landing
-travel pillow
-zippered hooded sweatshirt incase it's cold in the cabin

In my carry on I'd have a couple pens, one or two travel sized packages of kleenex and the needed chargers for my gadgets in case I'd need to charge them on a layover. I haven't flown since I got my iPad but the netbook may get the boot from my travel bag. I used to take both as it would easily fit on the tray table compared to my 15" MBP. I'd probably still take it if I had planned on doing a lot of photography since it's nice to have something really light and portable to dump my memory cards to as a backup. if it's a transcontinental flight I'd probably toss in my DS as well to keep boredom at bay. Oh and of course my passport if needed.

Food..

Had a flight once where we ran to the gate on a very short connection flight.. and..

No Food on Board..

The entire family was starving.. and we're ready to buy.. but no food! You've gotta be kidding..!

A pen, a book and 3 fully charged e-cigs.

Laptop - since most of my long hauls are for business trips I tend to do some of work related stuff onboard. These days the majority of my long hauls are done with CX F and they have an improved IFE to keep me distracted.

PJs - Even though some airlines provide them (i.e. CX's Shanghai Tang), I prefer to bring my own.

I presume we are talking about international flights.
.
  • Magazine for takeoff/landing
  • Tempurpedic slippers
  • Brookstone Nap blanket (if in Y)
  • Eyeshades
  • Bose QC15 headphones
  • Laptop, Droid X2 with inflight charging cables.
  • Medium size bottle of Purell
  • Lysol disinfecting wipes (Those lavs get rather nasty during longhauls)

In addition to the ususal suspects here (iPad w/ Kindle app, earphones, etc.) I always carry a few mini tabasco bottles. AA in particular never has hot sauce for the bloody marys which kills the deal for me. FAs usually comment on how cute they look or how prepared I was. A number of fellow pax have been very pleased when I offer them one.

Last year and previous years?
I used to have a good in-flight kit. Like a toiletry kit for the air. Toothbrush, paste, mouthwash, gum, cologne, brush, floss, razor. Also, had noise cancelling headphones, MP3 (replaced by my Blackberry later), Kindle, eye shades, slipper socks, tissues, mini cologne vial, ear plugs, melatonin, Ibuprofen, travel mug with whatever liquid, and some snacks.

Today?
I'm traveling this very minute with a laptop, a Nook Color, BlackBerry, gum and travel mug. That's it. Sad but true. Of course on my person I have my passport and wallet. I'm too tired and too weary lately to prepare like I used to.

ADD: One inflatable neck pillow! I can't deal with sleeping on a plane without one!
