Missing Items from Luggage
 

Ive flied with both Delta and Southwest in the last two weeks,

and first southwest, delyed my luggage and I recieved it like 8 hours later, and noticed right away my suit was missing, and now I just did a delta flight, and i missing a jacket. Filed a claim with both airlines, but they ask if I have claims with other airlines? even thou its two seperate items, on two serperate airlines, is this going to affect my outcome?

If they cant find the items (I hope they do find them), what happens?

If it's just two claims, they won't know or care. If you were filing a dozen a week they might.

If they offer you anything, it will probably be something for the item(s) that were lost. They may go by what you tell them it's worth, or they may not it's anybody's guess.

I would not think there is much of a chance of anything being found once it's separated from the suitcase, and even if it was, you probably don't want it back.

While I don't doubt your discovery that a suit and jacket were missing from your checked baggage, I'm having trouble envisioning a ring of, band of, or individual baggage thieves going to the trouble to loot luggage for suits and jackets (other than mink, other fur or fancified leather).

The last suit I had "stolen" from my bag turned out to have been left on a hanger in a hotel closet, the last jacket, left in a cab. That was long ago, when I was busier and more easily forgetful due to stress.

I'm not saying your gear wasn't "stolen", just implying that (a) things are not always what they seem, and (b) the coincidental nature of the claims lowers my credibility meter's readout.

I'm sorry to hear that your things were missing.

It sucks, but having two claims on two airlines at the same time for different flights may affect their decision to pay out.

Have you considered getting some of those TSA approved luggage locks. The agents can easily open the locks with a universal key but the baggage people shouldn't be able to.

How would they know (or care)? Unless there is obvious reason to believe that this is an insurance scam, the events are unrelated (though perhaps very unusual).

I do agree that it seems unlikely that someone would deliberately steal your suit, but if you feel you have a genuine complaint, write in!

Mine is minor but could have been worse. I have a lot of electronic items, most of which end up in my checked bag so I am accustomed to opening my bag when I get to my destination and finding a TSA inspection card. This last trip, I noticed they did not put the lock back on. Nothing was missing and I haven't reported it (not even sure how, or whether it's worth it). I travel twice a month and this is the first time this has happened.
Small items I can understand, but a suit? Can't imagine someone didn't notice a suit remaining on the table after an inspection. If it was in the bag to begin with, I don't think it was an accident that it didn't remain in the bag...

TSA-approved locks are a bit aimless as it is often the TSA that is doing the stealing.
