about the caviar...

So, my first F trip is coming up in less than two weeks. Ever since I started reading trip reports last year, I have had the same question(s). I am embarressed to ask. :) I only need one response (as long as it is accurate) as I just totally highjacked this thread.

How do you actually eat the caviar? When does the shot of vodka come in? Do you put the caviar on the toast and squeeze lemon on it? In all the trip reports I have never seen caviar except on the plate it was served - never assembled for consumption.

I have been mildly stressed about my upcoming LH experience and not knowing the proper way to enjoy the goodness of it all. :p

Thank you for whomever helps a poor girl out!

The only way, IMO, is straight up with a spoon.
Egg, toast, onion, capers, cream, all are diluents.

The booze is a chaser, only to be used if you
don't like the taste (sort of kidding).

+1 That's what you get for being a CP on US! :p

You have to remember the average FTer isn't your "typical" person.

He/she flies on average 198K miles a year.
He/she would rather starve than eat at McDonald's.
He/she would rather sleep outside than set foot inside a 3 star or less hotel.
He/she sees a human under the age of 3 and starts having heart palpitations at the thought of one of "those things" being within hearing distance on a flight.
And most importantly he/she is smarter, cooler, has a better personality and is in general a better person than 98.87% of the general population.

And so yes in this rarefied and elite world, one discusses issues such as champagne and caviar. What do you expect to discuss? Baseball? What are you some kind of plebeian?

This is without a doubt the absolute, unchallenged, BEST response to any post I have ever seen on FT!^

Well done!:D
(Especially the McDonald's mention).

Honestly, however you want :) No one's even going to notice what you do, they'll all be engrossed in their own treats.

What I do:

Squeeze lemon over caviar on plate
Take toast point, top with a bit of sour cream
Spoon caviar on top of sour cream
Bite, swoon, enjoy.

Chug vodka if you like. I'm not a huge fan of it, so I stick to the champagne :)

I've often wondered this myself. I agree with others who have mentioned it's part of the experience, plus getting it for "Free" if on a mileage redemption must make it taste better.

Personally, I don't much care for champagne but when I'm in F and it's offered, I usually say yes :D

Kind of like reading posts in the AA forum where some PLT claims to have scored 1876000 straight upgrAAdes.
