Google sheets to track booked flights?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I imagine it would have been but I couldn't find anything when searching Flyertalk.

My family of 5 is starting to fly a lot more than we used to and I'm struggling to find a solid way to keep track of flights; I've always used Google Sheets, and shared it with my spouse.

Wondering if any seasoned travelers have a tried & true format that they can share?

I currently include these columns:

Overview (ie: BUF - JFK - LHR)
Flight (ie JetBlue B6 2901)
Date of departure
Time of departure
Time of arrival
Flight/Layover duration
Confirmation code
Seat assignments
if applicable: Local departure time (if tz different)
if applicable: Local arrival time (if tz different)
Cost of flight in $ or points
Notes

I then break up flight legs per row, so it's easy to visually see departure times, layover duration, etc in a sequential way.

Any better system? Are there any fancy Google Sheet integrations that could maybe offer some additional value-add? If you have a great sheet system could you consider sharing it?

Thanks for any ideas!

I'd recommend switching to smth more automated like TripIt. It will pull plans out of your email confirmations and you won't have to worry about updating spreadsheets every time you make a change or addition.

Take a look at this thread:

TripIt is a solid tool to consolidate the data. You can integrate your email so its zero work on your part and puts it all in one place, with changes etc.

pAiback monitors and optimizes pricing for you but seems like you want to more overarching focus on flight details to share.

I like to break it down by segment, e.g.:

Ticket (WER9KO)
Price ($500)
Trip (Buffalo to London)
Origin (BUF)
Destination (JFK)
Departs (HH:MM)
Arrives (HH:MM)
Duration (HH:MM)
Seats (7A, 7B)

> 2 rows (another one for JFK to LHR), and potentially 4 rows if you have a return (with Trip: London to Buffalo)

Have also tried to break it down by trip, but it leads to more comma separated info, e.g.:

Ticket (WER9KO)
Price ($500)
Origin (BUF)
Destination (LHR)
Stops (JFK)
Departs (HH:MM)
Arrives (HH:MM)
Duration (HH:MM)

Tracking seats is a little harder here. You could add a column with stops durations too.

I have a website for me to log the details of all public transport journeys I have taken:

https://journey.miklcct.com/

The information I record includes the type, route, destination, boarding place, alighting place, times and distance. In recent years I have also enhanced it with the ability to track fares, including the use of multiple fares on one journey.

I do not record the seat (as it is immaterial to my journey) or any booking details (except a bit field to specify if the fare is a pre-booked v.s. walk up fare).
