FlyerTalk

FlyerTalk doesn't have reviews of all the hotels of the world!!

I use fakespot for not just TripAdvisor, but for Amazon and yelp. I also, for TA, I skip the one time posters and read if the reviewer has over 10 - 15 other reviews, more or less.

First time to know that fakespot working with Tripadvisor! Thank you!

I've alerted a moderator to merge this with the main Tripadvisor thread. I'm surprised that you are surprised that TA is full of BS reviews. No serious traveller takes that site, well, seriously!

+1. Stopped using it yeons ago.

Something I just noticed, after having not used TA in some time: The review no longer initially displays the number of reviews by the poster and helpful votes. I'm sure that all of us have learned to particularly take reviews by one or two time posters with skepticism, especially if there are many in a row. Every iteration of TA makes it harder to use and easier to game.

To elaborate - I just did a test and found that the US Trip Advisor does not show reviews/helpful votes but the NZ Trip Advisor site does. I don't know know about other
versions, but NZ will now be my default. At least until they change that, too.....

Not disputing what you are saying at all. But you can click on the contributor's name and the elements you are talking about are still there. I agree a total PITA but you can get the information.

Yes you can but it was much easier to be able to scan that information to provide direction on what to read and what to ignore. And a newer user might not even know that such information is available. I am suspicious of this change.

And it is now back to the way it was....wonder if it was just a glitch I happened on for a few hours?

Tripadvisor wants to become a booking site with reviews instead of a review site with options to book. They're slowly becoming less and less useful as a review site.

And I despise their subtle Ux changes that have accompanied this shift. It used to be easier to search hotels. Now? Ugh.

I now only view incognito, if not i get bombarded with emails and ads.
I do like the new search bar for reviews, for example, lounge or Platinum, and I do get some good and recent information from elites.
Photos are also pretty good.
Finally, I do like that many hotel responses include name and email of manager that I can email directly and make requests for my stay.
I still find entertaining some of the criticisms or complaints.

If it's a glitch, it's back again.
The reviewer (US TA) no longer shows the review count unless you manually click on their name/icon.

I suspect this is an "on purpose" with TA, but then again, I'm very cynical.
Not a fan of the change either.

TripAdvisor sucks now that it has become a pseudo-social network.

I find myself relying more and more on Google Reviews for hotels as a result.
