Hipmunk Consolidated Information and Help Thread
Hello,
I found a pretty cool flight search site called hipmunk works quite well. Let me know what you think of it. |
Pretty UI slapped on the ITA Matrix. Nothing to see, move along.
|
And clicking through to "Book" bumps the price up more often than not.
|
I use it from time to time. The interface is pretty nice, but it doesn't show the lowest prices in many cases.
|
TBH there's no real interface that shows the lowest price each time... I've often found lower prices on the airline websites over ITA for example, even for the exact same flights.
|
Hi, is this only for local flight search?? Just curious
|
I like the interface, so I've recommended it to those who don't care to mess around with ITA. I also always use it to check for hotel options when I'm trying to find cheap hotels for friends and family, as every now and then it digs up an amazing deal no other search can find. ^
|
I like both, although ITA is superior. Hipmunk is what I recommend to people who don't want to learn to use ITA. On the other hand, I think Hipmunk is great for searching for hotels, and there aren't many competitive alternatives in that area. If you want to learn to use ITA, I have a little guide on my blog, along with reviews of Hipmunk's flight and hotel search features.

I like it. It's not the only tool I use, but the interface is kind of helpful when I'm just playing around to see what my options are.
|
I like the hotel search feature where it gives you a list of hotels in a particular area with their tripadvisor ratings and price.

actually, the SEEING is what makes it nice, as opposed to ITA's needlessly cluttered interface

i generally use hipmunk for flights and and hotels, it is so simple and easy
|
The interface is quite nice... However, the prices seem a little inflated.
|
I don't like the interface THAT much. :)
|
Either do I but it has its uses...
Biigest problem for me is it often seems to return "Nothing found" especially on more complex itins that ITA produces results for.. OR.. on those multi-segment/multi airline trips it quotes a price several times that obtained from ITA.. SO.. another tool to use.. along with XP/Orbitz etc.. and my TA! |
Hipmunk Price Not Accurate?
Hey everyone. I'm trying to fly LAX-ASU r/t from May 25 to June 2.
Google Flights and ITA both show UA1565, UA1034, CM291 (LAX-IAH-PTY-ASU) and CM 206, UA 1031, UA 1121 (ASU-PTY-IAH-LAX) for $912. I found it on Hipmunk for $912 which linked to United where the price became $1337.90  I've tried Orbitz, Kayak, Expedia, Vayama and every other place I can think of, but I can't find this for anywhere near the $912. Any ideas? |
Did Hipmunk include "fuel" surcharges?

How can I tell? One other thing of note. On ITA this prices out at the $912 with all 6 segments in the N booking class. When Hipmunk links over to United the 4 UA segments are in the N booking class, but the 2 CM segments are V. |
Sounds like a puzzle for the guys in the mileage run "trick it" thread.
|
That price bucket ran out but didn't yet upgrade there. Happened to me with various OTAs a billion times.

Advanced Routing / Hipmunk Help / Force Layover
Can someone help me remember how to use advanced routing codes in Hipmunk to force a layover somewhere?
More specifically, I'm looking to do an open jaw trip from LAX, SFO to HAN and then return NRT, HND to LAX, SFO via GUM. I thought I just had to do TYO::GUM in the from field, but that doesn't work. I used Hipmunk last year when I went to NRT to force a layover in HNL and then used same day changes to stay in Hawaii for a bit. I'm hoping to spend a day in Guam with the same technique this time. |
