Unlock Iphone Options

It seems there will be NO Iphone Nano coming out anytime soon or the 32GB. So I better get a replacement back soon. (Refer to my first thread - my 16GB got stolen!)

My options are:
1) get it in HK for 6000HKD (around 850USDish)
Pro = unlock and I can use it anywhere I want
Con = HIGH PRICE

2) get in UK (Pay as you go version) for £391.45 (around 575.12USD)
Pro = Cheaper price
Con = Locked to the O2 network (which is where my exisiting Iphone contract is with, however I will be leaving UK for good later this year, so....)

Any other options???

Just wondering what do you think is best?

Get an unlocked version in Italy. Equally high price (600euro?).

I've decided to get the Iphone from UK for 391.45GBP and when I need it in HK I will get it unlock (for just around 200HKD = 20GBP)

Do you guys think the price will drop anytime soon?

No need to pay to unlock it if you already own a locked one. yellowsn0w will do it for you. Good instructions at iclarified dot com.

If you haven't already bought the UK one, my preference would be to spend the extra dough and get the official unlocked phone. If you buy that one, it will always stay unlocked and will still entitle you to full support, etc. I have learned that hacking, etc. may save you a few dollars in the short run but if you have mission critical needs, its just not worth the hassle of the potential problems (at least to me). I did have a original iphone that I used unlocked successfully for at least 6 months however.

Wirelessly posted (dell axim: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

Has anyone on here used YellowsnOw successfully themselves yet?

Did it work 1st time?

Thanks

However to buy the OFFICIAL unlock iphone in HK you have to go through Apple and it is around 6200HKD. This is almost TWICE the amount for the Locked UK Official model.

In Hk you can also get:

1) Unlock (Jail Broken) versions
2) Unlock version - not jail broken - not supported by Apple.

In HKG this week I found locked US 3G iPhones for sale cheap at $3200.

Can one buy an iPhone in the UK without a contract?

Yes, PAYG on O2 (handset locked to O2). Price quoted above.

New iPhone Mini in Mong Kok stores now

Well that what the little device in the window was labeled as anyways. ;) Very realistic looking and only $640. I didn't bother asking to see the OS.

That is 640 HKD? Or $640 in USD equivalent? I'm assuming the former...

Yes, HK$640. Or about €60. You could buy one as a party gift I suppose. Here is a pic of the mini iPhone

I think the NZ version is sold unlocked, if you can get one. Haven't checked prices recently, but I think it works out to be under USD$700. (~USD$660?)
