Lots of access, including shell. |
I'm with Scott, though I do agree that webhostingtalk is one of the few places where you can get real feedback. Be very cautious when searching for reviews and such. Most sites that you'll find are actually referral sites that sell their ratings for higher referral fees. It's scandalous!
If you do go with Dreamhost, remember to search around for coupons that give you discounts for the first year or extra domain registrations and such. Actually, this applies to most web hosting, as the business is very, very big on referrals with accompanying discounts and such. |
I've been using Nextpoint.net for several years. I have 2 domains with them, and pay about 80/year for the whole thing (including domain name registration annually). That's their 4.25/month "starter" package, which gives a bunch of email accounts and web host. There is a data cap, but I've never come close (not even 10% of it). My websites are very basic, however. I use it mostly for my own email domain. Uptime has been nearly 100%. If you go there, this have their awards from companies who supposedly rate web hosts.

Google Apps is great for e-mail. Their website component is of limited utility for a full-fledged website.

I have some sites with a smaller outfit that has excellent support and service: www.eboundhost.com. The service has been reliable and they have been very responsive any time that I have a question. I use both the hosting and email services. I'm thinking about moving my virtual server to them, too.
