Dish Network and Tivo - Compatable?

I have a the single room Tivo and am looking at either Dish Netork, DirectTV or Charter cable. Dish Network has the better prices, but I'm getting conflicting answers on whether or not Tivo is compatable with Dish Network. Tivo customer service says yes (only with single room Tivo box). Two calls to Dish Network have said no not at all and yes but you lose the functionality of Tivo. So does anyone here have an answer?

Ahhh a topic near and dear to my heart.

Dish does not have a reciever that actually runs TiVo which leaves you with two options:
A) use their PVR - I dont have any expirence with it
B) Use your tivo with a standard dish reciever - works just like using it with a cable box, you have to use the IR emetter, yadda yadda

DirectTV DOES have a reciever with TiVo. You can probably get one or more free as a new customer, although they are pushing their new PVR now too. The benift of the DirectTivo (as its called) is that it lets you record 2 shows at once- before the new Series III came out, it was the only tivo that could do that. They also have an HD TiVo (which I use) ... it has a 3rd input for over-the-air signals...

The only downside to the DirecTiVos is that they have disabled the networking stuff, so no tivo2go, etc.

Good luck

As a former Dish customer, you can connect the Tivo, but you'll have to take an analog feed out of your Satellite receiver & control it with IR or UHF (depending on the model). Everything internal to the Dish receiver is encrypted.

Depending on what you need from Tivo, you might be happier with the Dish PVR.

I have Dish network and Standalone Tivo (Humax with DVD), they work fine.
I also have SlingBox so can view and watch it from my apartment in Rio, in Hotels with DSL, and even over Sprint EVDO. Lets me view Tivo, set recording, view, everyting..
