Skype out - does it send tones?

I'm going to be in Asia and may need to call my US home phone to pick up messages - to do this I have to do a code with the number pad and it responds to the tones. Does skype have the ability for me hit numbers after the call is answered?

Skype Out does send tones, but I found the duration of the tone to be too short for my answering machine to respond to the tone.

It sends tones. I have problems using Skype with some voice/tone-recognition systems, or whatever you call them. It usually ends up working if I call back.

Same problem with my voice mail service and other tone-driven systems. It usually takes me 2-4 tries to make it work. In the end it generally does.

There ought to be a preference parameter you can set for tone length.

I seem to need to restart my computer (if I have not shut down for a while), to get the tones to work correctly. Have no idea why it works this way.

In my experience, all digital systems including cellphones create some distortion to the analog tones.

It sends tones, but I've had so-so results with it.

You might want to try to download a program onto your computer that will play tones through your speakers, then just hold the mic upto the speakers.

thanks for all the help. Okay I bit the bullet and risked my $10 and found out

........drum roll

that it does work with my phone (well at least it worked once).

I also enjoyed having a chat with my daughter using skype out - but will probably need to invest in better headset - from Malyasia to the US at a rate cheaper than if I was calling from home

totally agree...this would make it world's easier to enter account numbers, etc. on those systems.

If you have a speakerphone (land or cell), put your receiver up to it and use those tones. Easier than using speakers.

I have so far been unsuccessful in logging into my Tmobile Voicemail using SkypeOut. I used to be able to do so last year in Aug/Sept. I bought new credit this time and I cant get through. (Also now there is password entry reqd.. prev I did not... so I am guessing its TONES are faulty). I cant even log on to conference calls that I want to be on.

On a related note (sorry for hijacking!) is there anyway to program pauses into a phone # string? I'd like to program a single speed-dial that includes phone #, option #, account #, PIN etc.
