Cingular to be renamed AT&T....

Hilarious. Almost too funny to be true.

<Painful groan>

It wasn't even four months ago that I had been officially transitioned from AT&T to Cingular. Now I have to through it again?

yevlesh2 Nov 21, 2005 9:04 am

Idiots. Didn't they just spend some insane ammount to rebrand everything to Cingular?

IMHO Cingular is actually a stronger brand then AT&T . AT&T is just too old, too stale.

LOL!!!! I actually preferred ATT over Cingular. ATT Wireless didn't charge to receive SMS. I doubt they'll be doing that anytime soon.

BogeyMan Nov 21, 2005 9:21 am

Great news, my AT&T branded Blackberry is now back in style. :D

Wireless Nov 21, 2005 9:29 am

uh, what? How come I haven't read this in any of the news this morning or the past few days?

Bellsouth owns a substantial (40%) stake in Cingular, I highly doubt they'd like the name change. SBC/BS has been happy with the Cingular brand performance. This has got to be a joke.

The new logo sucks. The deathstar rules, it doesn't need to be messed up, and the lowercase looks amateur.

Actually, Bellsouth seemed pretty happy with this, they claim that anything that helps sales is welcome.

health-giving benefits:

i laughed my tail off. having worked in technology since divestiture began in 1975, i find this all too comical. obviously a name means nothing. or is it divestiture that means nothing. a shell game: where is the at&t name today.

Wireless Nov 21, 2005 11:44 am

ah, cool, finally reputable confirmation. interesting.

Speaking of laughing, I read the AT&T/SBC name decision while packing for BCN do in the wee hours of the morning. I was finding it hilarious that we're renaming Pacific Bell Park yet AGAIN. AT&T Park, you will!

skofarrell Nov 21, 2005 11:58 am

Yay, the death star is back!

cordelli Nov 21, 2005 12:20 pm

Ohhh, I know why.

I loved AT&T

I hated Cingular, they were a total nightmare to work with when they screwed things up.

They have such a bad reputation, they want to try to change that by changing their spots so to speak.

Great news. I like the new branding concept. Hopefully Cingular customers will begin recieving the exceptional wireless and customer service that AT&T customers once enjoyed.

biggs Nov 21, 2005 12:39 pm

I find this funny. I had ATTWS, which got bought by Cingular but then in NC was sold to Suncom but I got a letter saying that Cingular had bought back the former ATTWS customers in NC so that it would be Cingular now but I guess it is back to ATTWS.

I need a program to tell me who is on first. :)

The original Engadget story has now been updated. It's apparently not true. Cingular will still exist.

Teacher49 Nov 21, 2005 2:26 pm

How very singular is this whole business. ;)

I still have my ATT branded phone and the SIM that came with it. I still - fortunately - have the plan I bought from ATT which no current Cingular plan can come close to matching.

As to service, I was with ATT during good and terrible periods. My luck so far with Cingular has been very good when I have needed them.

Cingular will still exist, but not everywhere. According to the usa today article: "Whitacre said AT&T might still use the Cingular name in some markets."
