Setting up Blackberry
 

Okay I now have a Blackberry. The tech guys set it up so that it synchronizes with my email at work. We use Lotus Notes. I would also like to set up my personal email (cox.net and yahoo.com) accounts with my BB. Is this possible since I sync with Lotus Notes for work? and if so what do I do? When I open the BB desktop manager all I see are 4 icons (Application Loader, Backup and Restore, Intellisync and Redirector Settings.

Help! Is there a site specifically for Blackberry Users on the web similar to the tivo site.

It is very possible to foward your personal mail to your blackberry and there a few ways to do so.

Out company just got us BB's as well, 7250 (Verizon).

One way to access Yahoo Mail is to use the BB's built in browser, if yours has it - to access the Net and your company doesn't mind you using it to check your personal email. (Data usage limits / rates may apply)

Using the BB's browser, go to http://mobile.yahoo.com/mail, bookmark it.
Enter your screenname and password and you should be in.

From there you can also check your Other Email... which you would have to set up first from within Yahoo Mail.

Thanks for the link. This site is great. I am such a newbie to this blackberry stuff. After a bit of searching around this site I figured out how to read and respond to my personal att.net account. This blackberry stuff is cool! I feel so freed from my computer.

BlackBerry Forums is invaluable.

On your original point, I am not sure whether YahooMail offers POP access or not, but assume Cox does.

I have BES with Outlook and at the same time have set up BWC (Blackberry Web Client) which is a service offered by blackberry and/or the wireless company you are using. They have a web client which pulls pop mail form any account(s) you specify and forwards to your Blackberry.

For instance I use:- https://webclient.blackberry.net/Web...te=attwireless (you would have to find your provider's version of that page).

Any opinions on the 7100G v. the 7290? I think the G is newer model (?) but its qwerty keyboard has 2 letters per key. is that a real negative? :confused:

both have bluetooth. any real-world users out there that could give me a recommendation?

I had one of the first 7100 series released, and wrote several reviews on it. For people that only want to READ email then a 7100 will be just fine, if you ever plan to respond to one, or use IM then stay away and get the 7290.

I use a 7290 myself and love it. More memory, slightly faster and a superior display.

Feature-wise the new 7100g matches the 7290 plus adds speakerphone. The non-qwerty keyboard is perplexing. Reading reviews people say it's no big deal, just click away and it learns your words. :confused:

This is going to be my first bb so want to be safe - but the sleek silver look of the 7100g is cool too! It's going to be for 95% email use though so the keyboard makes me lean to the 7290

I tried to learn it for 2 weeks. And then gave up.

It is fine for sending "ok" or "sure", but anything over 2 words, or stuff containing punctuation is simply a nightmare.

Okay, I went with 7290. You're on the hook! :D

Why is it called a Blackberry?
 

Just a random question. Why is it called a Blackberry? I was showing my sister all the great features of my BB and she wanted to know why it was called a Blackberry. I didn't have an answer. :eek:

My device is a 7290 as well. Best berry every.

Upgraded from a plain Motorola on Verizon to a Blackberry 7250 last week. Still trying to figure everything out and still need to move my phone number from my old Motorola to my new phone.

Being able to surf anywhere there is network access is VERY cool. I don't think its fully sunk in to my brain that I've got that access anywhere!

Trying not to accidently hit ESC when I don't mean to.

Got the unlimited $45/month plan through Verizon.
