Marriott Wireless, FlyerTalk and AIM

I just got a new wireless latop about a month ago and I'm the first to admit that I don't know much about this technology.

Last week and this week I've stayed in a Marriott (okay, a Fairfield, my company is cheap  ) and I am having problems with FT and AIM. FT is very slow (on and off) and I can't connect to AIM at all, it says the AIM service can't be reached. My signal strength is "Very Good". Marriott uses Golden Tree Communications.

I've stayed at Hilton and Holiday Inn and I don't remember having these problems.

Does anyone know if this is a Marriott problem or a problem with my laptop?

Thanks!

It's more of a property problem than a laptop problem. If there's an ethernet port in the hotel room, and you have an ethernet cable, try using that instead of the wireless connection. If the problems disappear, then more than likely, it's the property's wireless network that's at fault. Very rarely, will there be a problem on your side unless you have things configured wrong.

g'luck!

If it works fine someplace else, and doesn't work there, then it's a problem on their end. They are probably blocking the AIM services, lots of places do because they take up so much bandwidth.
