In my laptop I have a dial up network account I use when I am in the States. It is Earthlink and belongs to an ex-girlfriend. She gave me permission to use it when I am there but we are no longer in contact so I can not get the password from her.
I want to put the account in a new laptop but need the password. It only shows as **** on my old one. Is there anyway I can dig it out from my old computer?

There is a program out there that will display what the ***** decrypts to, but I can't remember the program. A little googl-ing should lead you to it.
For your dial-up access in the US, you may want to look at Access-4-Free.

Any chance she had a pet while you two were dating? I read recently that a huge amount of passwords are either dogs or cats names.
I'll defer to the tech gurus for more technical assistance.

True. Women do this more often than men. Names of pets, people, places, favorites are the most likely passwords. The closer the relationship, the more likely that the object of affection is the password.Originally Posted by Dugernaut

Gulp. I need to change some of my passwords...

Is there an option to import and export your account information? I believe you can do that on some systems without actually having the password.
Snadboy's may do the trick for you, it shows what's under the *'s. Since you don't even talk to her now, I think it may be time for a new account.

The program is called "Unhide."

Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your help.
Cordelli, in our last conversation, she told me to feel free to use her internet connection whenever I am in the States. We broke up on very good terms but she felt that it would be too emotionally difficult for her for us to continue to stay in contact.
Still, I would prefer not using her account if possible and am going to go with the Access-4-Free suggestion.
