Sprint PCS - New Phone

Anyone ever have any luck of requesting a new free phone from Sprint? I have been a customer for 5 years now and am in need of a new phone and don't want to pay full price with all of the rebates available. But the rebates are for new accounts. I have read somewhere that if you ask they will sometimes send you a new phone for free. Maybe threaten to leave for another service?

If you've been a customer for longer than 18 months since your last handset upgrade, you qualify for most of the big rebates. Typically $150-200 per phone.

I just did it for all three phones on my account: upgraded to Sanyo 8200's and got $190 back on each of them. Of course, I was taxed on the artificially-inflated price and Sprint PCS invested my $570 for about 11 weeks, so my net rebate wasn't actually $190/each after accouting for that. I guess the 600 or so extra Starpoints from my Amex eased the "bite" a little. :)

I don't want to get too philosophical about my general take on the ethics of Sprint PCS as a company or my take on mail-in rebates - I could write an essay. But the point is...you do qualify for rebates if you want to upgrade to a new handset.

You might be able to get a bit more if you threaten to leave, but are any of the other carriers any less deceitful and shifty with their business practices than Sprint? Aren't they all the same?

A must-read for you is http://www.sprintusers.com/ . It's a great resource for information such as this. Good luck!

Being a high revenue customer w/ Sprint (ave bill ~$350/mo) I was able to get them to give me two $350 credits towards the purchase of two new phones. Good luck.

Go over to

http://www.sprintrebates.com/

and put in your telephone number and zip code and it will tell you if you are eligable for any credits, and what those credits are.

New Phone Today

I have been a Sprint customer for 5 years, and had the same phone for 4 of them. Today I went to the Sprint store and got a new phone. My contract had already expired, so I changed my plan and got a $150 rebate certificate on my new phone. The sales associate said they have an upgrade program where you can get a new phone every 18 months, but I forget the prices she mentions.

I just got a new phone, lower monthly charges and I am happy. :D

i believe the "standard" package is a $100 discount if u sign a new 1yr contract and $150 if u sign a 2yr contract. that's what i was told when i called not too long ago. i've been with them for 3-4yr and still on my 1st phone (real old and breaking), but my bills have never been huge.

I have also found that depending on the CSR that you speak with you might be able to get them to give you more than what is published. I suggest that if at first you don't succeed try, try again.

Another great resource is www.howardforums.com. It's broken down by cell provider and handset maker. Great overall resource..

I have a Sprint plan for $200 that gives me unlimited minutes nationwide. I only pay $5 for roaming. I even get free internet. YOu should look into it if your bill is $350.

Hmmm, I have a plan with 2000 minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, roaming, unlimited data, and phone insurance for $94/month. I think 4000 minutes (getting close to realistically unlimited usage) for another $20 - maybe you should look into your bill ;)

I sent to the Sprint site and they said I wouldn't be eligible until may. I've had service for 2 years and upgraded my Treo 300 to a 600 directly through Handspring/Palm, not changing numbers. Why would a handset change that I didn't get through Sprint reset the 18-month rebate counter? I'm not too worried about it - I'm happy with my 600 and $100 wouldn't make me switch, I just think it is odd.

I just went to the webstite. The free and clear 2000 minutes is $100. It is $15 for data and $5 for roaming. It is also $5 for 7pm N/W. Maybe you live in a zipcode that has a different plan (mine is 60035). One other thing, the only analog PDA phone available from Sprint is the I500 by Samsung. Dual Band/Tri-Mode. The Treo 600 is only Dual Band Digital. There is supposed to be a I550 from Samsung coming out in Jan/Feb. That will be the phone of choice for CDMA.

I don't know, but I sure know that Sprint is horrible and given the chance, I would not re-up with them, and would advise all other potential customers to stay away.

I don't know about now, in 2005, but I know back in the late 90's Sprint was very liberal throwing around "corporate discounts". To this day I get a flat 24% off of my monthly recurring charges with Sprint. I have three Vision handsets linked on a 1100-minute plan, unlimited Vision, and unlimited PCS-to-PCS and my total bill with all the taxes is $93. I just came down from the 2000 minute plan and I may drop one more notch as we are all moving more and more usage over to VoIP.

Everybody I know who is on Sprint has some sort of discount if they joined Sprint long ago. Every time my contract comes up for renewal, nobody mentions the discount expiring. If it did, I would immediately change providers.
