True, but they all stink. Everybody hates their wireless provider because these companies all overpromise and underdeliver. They all feature inefficient processes, poor IT infrastructure, and absolutely horrendous customer service.

You just gotta go with whichever one happens to work best where you need it to be most, knowing that none of them work great. At my house, Verizon and Sprint both get full-signal anywhere inside. My Cingular friends have to go out on the deck to make a clear call. Don't know about Nextel, but soon it won't matter.

So for me I have only two choices, and Sprint won my business with their aforementioned generous sales guy in 1998. I doubt Verizon has any interest in making the same offer, although I suppose next time my contract is up, I should take my phone bill over to their store and let them try. They would have to beat it significantly in order to make the hassle worth it, and I'm 95% sure they won't.

I agree. It is the lesser of the evils. Especially with cell phones, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have had sprint for years and when my account was due for renewal, I threatened to bolt and they actually bent over backwards to keep me as a customer. I pay very little for my cell and get more minutes than I can use.

I am a very happy AT&T Wireless customers(errr Cingular customer) as where I live in the Metro NYC area all cell phone providers are pretty good with few dead spots. Plus with my Corp discount roaming INTL is really cheap and sometimes cheaper than buying a pre-paid card for the country that I am in.

Because I travel to Europe and Asia a GSM phone is a must and that rules out Sprint/Nextel and Verizon which are the other larger providers. I used to use Verizon but I fed up with their very expensive service and lower quality calls.
However, I have to give credit to Verizon for their EV-DO service that they realeased here in the NYC/Metro area, it has realy improved the train ride from NY PENN to Washington, DC.

A good friend of mine uses Sprint and their calls seem to be clearer than Verizon's but, I do not like their handset lineup.
