I'm going to buy a blackberry. It's a good item ?

Palm, PocketPC & T610 collect dust in the drawer.

I finally got one a few weeks ago, and it is incredible how easy it makes email and staying in touch.

However, I am disappointed in the ability to use web sites. It is barely functional, I could do much more on my Sony-Ericsson T68i. Basically, all I can do is use AT&T's mMode stuff, I can't even get other WAP sites to work like google or united's site.

At some point when I have more time, I might try to figure out if there's somethign tech support can do, but in the meantime, it's 50/50.

This sounds like a problem with the way your account is provisioned with AT&T. I use T-Mobile and can view just about any html or wap sites.

This is like saying "I'm going to buy a car, is that a good idea?"

What do you plan on doing with it, what are your needs, where will your travel with it, do you need any special features like Bluetooth or voicedialing?

What kind of email setup do you use at the moment? Which Blackberry model are you considering?

I can't simply answer with a "yes" or a "no", it depends on a lot of factors.

Check www.blackberryclub.com and ask the question there, it could as Bollar said be a provisioning problem, or it could require a small "hack" to enable unrestricted browsing.

Does anyone know the costs for Blackberry if you constantly travel around central Europe? Do all major countries in Europe support it?

On T-Mobile, the cost is 1.5 cents/kb. If you only do mail, it's not that expensive, as you don't rack up a lot of charges just checking for mail. If you web browse, though, expect a pretty hefty bill.

As you can see, France, Germany, UK, Ireland, Italy any many other countries have data roaming agreements with T-Mobile.

Since I'm 5 years into a lifetime ban on AT&T Wirleless, I couldn't tell you anything about their service. :D

Let's just say the feeling is mutual. I was a twenty-year customer spending $500 a month, and the wireless company incensed me so much that I will never buy an AT&T-branded product again.

But aside from that, I'm a happy Voicestream & then T-Mo customer. ;)

How true! I know of one guy with a Blackberry who neither needs nor understands it! (he can't afford it either, but I guess that's what credit cards are for...)

It's funny how everyone has one wireless company they have had the world's worst experience with. I first bought a T-Mobile Blackberry and it was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I had to go the store 4 times, I went through hell with the tech support line and the thing never worked at all. I returned it and very happily spent $50 more to get the same unit from AT&T wireless.

Probably the same kind of person that aquires airline status just to get compliments about their choice of fashion :)

The Blackberry is an expensive little gadget for people that just want to chat or post to a blog, in such cases a Sidekick would be a much better choice.

If you ever decide to form a club let me know. I can get you some additional members. ;)

Another Blackberry option
 

Earthlink has for years been buying Blackberry time and packaging it and selling it as their own branded service. This includes customer support directly from Earthlink which I have used on a couple of occassions and been very pleased with. Up until recently they were reselling the Cingular Mobitex service but they have now added (part of a phased transition I would imagine) what appears to be Verizon 1x CDMA Blackberrys to their marketing. From what I see on their web pages they are selling this for $10 less per month than Verizon is selling it for. If you are in the market for a US only Blackberry it might be worth a look.
