Your best best is to call the ISP and ask if they can do forwarding of all emails to a seperate address.

Any decent ISP should be able to do that.

Probably easier to use BWC to pull, rather than asking the ISP to push.

Not really, the BWC poll is once every 15 minutes, for me (and most others) that is too slow, especially if you are communicating in real time with someone. A direct forward has the email on your Berry within 30 seconds.

Hmmm -- didn't realize BWC pull was that long a cycle. Agree 100%, but with forwarding (unless he can manage a .forward himself) he's somewhat at the mercy of his ISP to do it right and maintain it.

Yes, sadly there are still ISP's that don't realise people need forwarding for all kinds of things...

A related Blackberry question

I have a Mobitex Blackberry from Earthlink (through Cingular) and have been using it a couple of years. I use the Blackberry desktop redirect and have our exchange server send everything to the BB. I was considering switching to either TMobile or Verizon Blackberry. Does anyone have any comments or experience comparing those in terms of the functionality (Im assuming it would be the same) or the coverage (assuming it would be different but in what way)?

If you have an existing POP3 server then it should be fairly easy to setup a copy of all email so it goes to your regular account AND the Blackberry, but it depends on the kind of POP server. IMHO that is always the best solution as it's faster and more reliable.

No, having a blackberry server is the BEST solution, but just a little expensive ...

Now that Ive gotten it to work, I have a few more questions.

1) Every time I send an email out, I get a copy back to my Blackberry saying this is an email you have sent out. Is there any way to stop that?

2) If I am checking my mail on my Blackberry and delete something, how can I be sure that it is also deleted from the server. I dont like checking my mail on my Blackberry and then returning to the office (or checking my mail online) and having all the same emails sitting there! or what about vice versa, if I check my mail online or on my computer's Outlook Express, when I sign on to my Blackberry, all the same emails still appear there!!

Any ideas?

3) Is there a junk mail filter I can put on my Blackberry?

Thanks everyone!

Cingular is planning on a scheduled "killing" of Mobitex over 2005... So be forewarned. We moved 300 users from the Mobitex network to T-Mobile. No issues. ATTWS or Cingular (GPRS) has slightly better coverage if you are in rural areas (I mean like middle of nowhere Montana) via GSM850 support on their devices... T-Mobile has much better international capabilities plus good coverage in the US.

(Edited my half-asleep typing) :)

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out. The company I work for had quite a load of the Interactive Pagers which use the old Mobitex devices, and as far as I know, they don't offer the service over any of the GPRS networks. Obviously the BlackBerry service with pin-to-pin could work for a similar function, but it will be interesting to see if/how they phase out the pager service as well, or if they will just remove the BlackBerries from the Mobitex network.

As far as I know, UPS is still using Mobitex for their little portable package tracking terminals, too.

Thanks for that info, I wasnt aware of that. If it is next year I might wait to see what happens. Right now Earthlink is buying time from Cingular, they will have to come up with a plan B when this phase out occurs. Might be some good deals in the transition. I have been considering Verizon as well. Certainly their cell phone coverage is better than either the Mobitex or any of the GSM providers. US only of course though, but I could live with that. Thanks again for the information.

Do keep in mind of Verizon's coverage... alot of it in rural still drops to AMPS/TDMA. Their map isn't very obvious of this. When this happens, you lose Blackberry coverage.

Thanks. That is a good point. Since I do have a dual mode phone I can see the analog areas. I generally try to avoid them (and not due to lack of phone coverage) with the exception of vacation (typically Maine). I usually dont want to look at my Blackberry there anyway. I think also that Verizon is scheduled at least to be totally digital by next year when the Mobitex will be going away.

1) Platform 4.0 (end of the year?) is supposed to change where sent mails go to (into a folder on the device)

2) Do you select "reconcile now" and do over the air reconcile or do you just cradle and sync?

Is it true that in order to have a web browser/Internet access on the Blackberry, you have to pay thousands of dollars to have some license or software for the device? Or does a web browser simply come free with it?

Thanks
