Anyone use JetConnect?

Did a search on "JetConnect" in this forum and didn't find anything.

Has anybody used this service from Verizon? I saw an ad for it in Hemispheres. Basically for $5.95 per flight, you can do some low-bandwidth things like send instant messages, get stock quotes, weather reports, send SMS, etc. Seems like a pretty good deal, since usually when I'm flying and want to contact somebody, it's just a quick message I need to get out and email or web is not that important.

Supposedly it's offered only on 767. More info is available at:

Looks like a reasonably inexpensive way to kill a couple of hours. Even longer if you use EmPower.

Hopefully, someone will let us know how well it works.

Tried it, smart way to dial-up, just dialed my regular provider, their service grabs that and provides the connection. Content was pretty poor, wasn't enough to get me through more than 15 minutes. Sending SMS messages is interesting but nothing spectacular... IMHO just another way to grab some revenue off the phone, I just wish they'd provide a cheaper way for (unlimited) data calls as I doubt they'll be installing Connexxion by Boeing soon http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

You can send outbound emails with JetConnect. It's not equiped for you to receive emails yet though.

You can of course also send text messages to other folks text devices and cell phones. You can also Instant Message with most of the popular IM systems (AOL, MSN, etc). I usually have live IM converstations with my ladyfriend, but have also been known to bug a few FlyerTalkers from the sky, as well. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

I love it as I can catch up on the news, but mainly for the email and messaging functions.

If someone else you knew were on another 767, I would imagine you could IM plane to plane!

Don't know if you knew yet, but if you register then you get a free JetConnect session for one flight segment:

I did this with a whole mess of e-mail addresses (deleting cookies each time to be doubly sure) and got a unique code each time. ^ :D

I used JetConnect from Chicago to Las Vegas on United. Was able to send and receive emails, as well as chat on MSN and Yahoo messenger. With the free session - see link above - it was worth the time.

In a week, I am flying IAD to LHR on a UA 767 that has JetConnect. Anyone know if it will work while am over the water?

did not work on a trip from LAX-SYD.

It won't work over water. You have to be in range of a land airfone station. To work over water it would have to be satellite connected.

A lot of people use this service when they are flying on flights. As a flight attendant, many many people use this. I work for United currently. It is really good.
