I caved and ordered a 16" M1 Max with 32GB of ram and 1TB SSD. Feel like I should have gone with 64GB but don't really feel like cancelling and reordering again. Replacing my late-2019 16" MBP with the Core i9. Excited about the improved battery life and new webcam.

I'm replacing the same 2019 laptop with the same config as you but with the 64gb of RAM. also, trading in the 2019 laptop for a $1420 credit.

Mine should be delivered today... can't wait. UPS guy will find me camped out on the driveway in a lawn-chair. :)

A laptop for $3,300? Our amounts of play money differ in magnitudes. :)

My kids really don't need to go to college, do they? :)

Update. First post from my new M1 Max 14 incher.

How is it?

Should I be thankful or upset that I can't pick up a 14 inch M1 Pro or Max with 32gigs of ram at an apple store?

So far it has been great:
  • It is very fast and performant in the various tasks I've thrown at it. For basic computing it is an absolute beast. Definitely performs better than my work-issued 2019 MBP 16 inch.
  • I've not really used the keyboard or screen much myself as I have it hooked to my 49 inch dell monitor with the laptop closed.
  • Had some odd issue with my Caldigit TS3 thunderbolt hub where the hub would not always "wake" up the screen after I came back from a prolonged break. I'm testing various scenarios around that use case. Hooking the laptop directly to the screen works brilliantly though.
  • I like the size/weight better than my old 16 inch from work. The 14 incher is a better size for a travel scenario.

I went all out… ordered a 64gb 2tb version. I’ll pick it up after work tonight.

I was debating going for 64GB... but decided to save the extra $400.

I saw Tuesday morning my local apple store has the 64GB 2TB in stock was almost tempted, but I really don't need 1TB SSD, and I figure the 32GB SHOULD be fine. My work 2019 MBP has 16GB and it has been fine since I had it.

I got it... Quiet so far...

Trying to get Windows working (using UTM). Guess it's taking a while for it to install.

EDIT: Also ordered it via the educational store, so I think I saved ~$400.

There doesn't seem to be much over-demand for the new base machines... I just checked and most are in stock at my local store.

Must... resist....

Resistance is futile.

I've had second thoughts on whether I should of gotten 64GB instead of 32GB. Also trading mine in but have it listed online too. New system arrives November 10-17, so hope to sell the current one private party and make a few extra bucks.
