my problem is that Firefox "Grows" and keeps taking more memory , even if its just sitting ,

I have way too many Tabs open , but somehow FF must go around and check the ones I am not using and grabbing more memory......

and this new Flyertalk grabbed a whole lot of memory !

Make sure you have Infinite Scroll set to disabled in your settings for the new FT.

RAM is cheap. Add 8 or 16 GB. Done.

I used to use FireFox but more recently have used Chrome. I still view e-mail accounts in Thunderbird. I downloaded 'new' FireFox.

A useful feature in FireFox for me was the saved passwords feature. When I try to use it now, my master password is not recognized. I don't remember changing it.

Have I lost it for ever by downloading 'new' FireFox? Is there a way of restoring it? Many thanks for your advice.

Many browsers these days seem to make you use your Windows password (or whatever the master password is for your machine, not the browser). Have you tried that?

Oh dear. I don't seem to have a Windows password. When I switch on, I click Log In and tickety boo. I need a deep think!

Worth a try

From the comments here it seems new FF might be worth a try. Love Chrome, have over a dozen amazing extensions I use almost daily. Let's see if it's worth it.

Whether that's easy or impossible depends greatly on the machine. Too many (expletive) laptops with (expletive) soldered memory these days.

---

As for Firefox, I never left, but I am seriously annoyed about the WebExtensions transition. The two most important (PrivacyBadger and uBlock Origin) were ready to go on day one, and SSL Everywhere is working now, but most of my extensions haven't been updated and at least one author (the one for DownThemAll!) has basically said "(expletive) it, I'm not going to bother."

For those who like NoScript, you've probably seen it upgraded out of "legacy" already but it is (finally) available on 57+. I find it too intrusive (for my main system), and used to use YesScript to disable it on a few select sites; that still hasn't been upgraded (and probably won't be, the author having list been active years ago.)

On the plus side, while several people I know are annoyed by the lack of TabMixPlus, I always found it too heavy of a solution while the new FoxyTab seems to do everything I wanted out of TMP witha great deal less overhead.

I miss Classic Theme Restorer. Managed to get the address bar above the tabs using css, but I'm not au fait with computers and CTR made Firefox bearable. :(

I use Vivaldi.

For sites where I'm not concerned about security, Opera 12 still beats everything newer.

is there an extension that shows the size and name of each tab open ?
