More "Secret Squirrel" crap. Unless you have proof of course.

Edited to add: Why wouldn't the FBI just claim they found the phone without a lock code instead of threatening Apple with a court order to unlock it for them? I mean, according to you they could get into it at will, right? No need for all the "Theatre" that way.

I use a lock screen and phone encryption because my job requires it. In addition to the Android manager I also have Cerberusapp on all our phones as a back up phone locator/wiper. My wife lost her old phone somewhere in the country and I wiped it remotely when we finally decided we could not find it. She didn't and still doesnt use a pin or other lockscreen. So she forwards her phone to my locked devices when traveling internationally with phone leash.

And I use 2 factor authentication on my primary gmail account.

Google Device manager can do much of that, it doesn't offer the full suite of items, but then again it is free.

I find it interesting that many on here are trying to impose their view of the world on others. If you want to encrypt/use a screen lock on your phone, fine. If I don't (and I don't), none of anybody's business. If my company wants me to use my own phone, they can enforce password protection on the e-mail app (but instead they enforce screen lock, which means I will deactivate company e-mail while on vacation and sometimes over the weekend).

Over-the-top security, totally ignoring the end user, brought BlackBerry down.

I'm surprised that no one yet have mentioned pocket dialing or pocket texting

Never happened with smartphone. Few times the phone has switched off while on pocket of jeans. But I think even the pin won´t help on this problem, because the off switch works without opening the phone.

packet dialling/texting - its a balance depending about the time set for the screen lock to come on. I used to set my phone for 2 minutes, but now reduced it to 30 seconds.

Mainly caused by FAST /QUICK dialling i.e. one key press to call. I disable all one key dialling functions..

I don't lock my own phones and doubt I will ever do.

If my phones are lost or stolen, the worst that would happen is that the thief gets about 3 hours of free phone calls or a few hundred MB of data before my credit runs out.

You have zero personal data on your phone? No email, no web browsing history? No previous destinations on GPS history? Contact info?

My phone is also my organizer.. so I keep i locked down. Personal contact info, banking, etc etc...

Never? For me it happens once awhile, for instance yesterday I was talking to a friend and a couple of minutes he calls back, but all I hear is how he's singing along in the car (with scratching sounds from his pocket). I wish I could have recorded that. Another friend of mine is once awhile sending messages that looks like "dddhhehe jewejejehhhh ehehhwhhhqqq". You never send/get these?

There's a difference using a flip-phone like yours and a smart-phone. On my old flip-phone I only had contacts stored. A potential bad person could probably still cause harm with that info, but not as much as someone can if they get access to my smart phone with email, enhanced contacts, pictures, notes, browser history and open browser tabs etc. and not forget the combination of email+text message in context of two-way authentication.

Do you have any email accounts on the phone? Almost every bank and credit card company will change passwords and allow account access to anyone who can log into your email account.... would take 5 minutes to get into all your accounts and empty them

SIL doesn't lock hers. She seemed puzzled when confronted by my lock screen.
