Some of the billing (same rate, just broken out) for my last international trip took 2 billing cycles to post.

In Google's invite only Project Fi forum, there have been reports from folks who have used Fi for a multi week international trip, but I haven't yet read a posting from someone who's used it overseas for longer than that.

I gave up on this after two weeks. My Nexus 6 was constantly switching between signals - and when it did get a decent signal, it was usually crappy Sprint, so my speeds were atrocious. I like the concept behind this, and I'm sure it'll eventually turn into a decent product, but the marriage of Sprint and T-Mobile is one where only half of the partnership is any good.

I'd imagine their costs for data in some of the covered countries are significantly more than their contracted rates with T-Mobile/Sprint.

So....the Nexus 5X and 6P will both work with Project Fi. I'm still dissatisfied with the size of my Nexus 6, but torn as to whether I should spend the money to buy the 5X so soon after purchasing the Nexus 6. (I got it in late June or early July.) Need to see how much money I could recoup by selling it. Anyone else considering the switch?

Here is the problem: the Nexus 6 is currently selling for less than the Nexus 5X (on Amazon). My guess is that the resale value of the Nexus 6 is going to be a lot lower than what you were hoping.

Yikes, T-Mobile has stated that band 12 will NOT be supported out-of-the-box for the 5X and 6P.

So I took the plunge. I am a current T Mobile customer, but since Project Fi has such a low bill, and international support I made the switch.

Preorded the Nexus 5x right there on the project fi website, even including the 24 month installment payments for my nexus 5x the bill still comes cheaper than my T mobile bill with my current phone all paid off. Set it up to transfer my number once the device ships and I can activate it.

I have a trip to Trinidad and Tobago coming up in November, and Australia in February.

Come on Project Fi don't let me down!

My only concern is I have a credit of like 300 dollars with T mobile since I prepaid my phone bill a few months back by a large margin to hit the minimum spend on a credit card signup bonus, I am assuming once I cancel my service with T mobile any credit will be refunded correct?

Yeah. If you buy the 5X/6P with a Project Fi plan you can pay for it over 24 months.

Have they indicated they will support other phones or is it just aNexus phones?

I'm willing to wager there might be more compatibility with phones with Marshmallow.

I was about to switch and then found this thread. No raving reviews going on here. Going to wait and order either the new 6P or possibly although doubtful the 5x. Living with a Nexus 5 at the moment and loving T-mobiles International Roaming plan. Seems like Fi is an upgrade in speed Internationally and in theory better in the US since it switches to Sprint in places where Tmo has poor coverage. But... not hearing glowing reviews from this thread.

I just got my Project Bill for the fourth time since I moved over. My bills average out to less than $27 a month including taxes. I use less than 1 GB of cellular data a month.

Previously on T Mobile this same type of usage was costing about $60 a month on a Simple Choice post paid plan.

I roam internationally when I travel, but don't talk, text, or use that much data. I take advantage of WiFi a lot, using Boingo if need be, which I get via my AMEX Plat.

My service has not suffered since the switch, but I know from reading the many stories online that for some folks, that was not the case. I suspect multiple variables (cell network in locations, different phone images, hardware issues with SIMs and phones, user issues) account for this.

I think the suggestion to try it out is more attractive to people who already have a supported Nexus phone or were planning on buying one. Being comfortable with using Google Hangouts on your PC and other devices for calling and messaging also helps with the experience and acceptance.

Would I recommend it at this time to a non technical "salesman Sam/Samantha" who is a high volume caller/texter/celldata user and associates problems with lost revenue? Heck no.

I've been interested in Project Fi for a long time, though unwilling to get a Nexus 6 phone. Now that there are two new options, I'm just waiting for them to be released so more first-person reviews can become available.

This line would be primarily for international travel, as I'd keep my fairly cheap (grandfathered) line with Verizon, and my iPhone, for use in the U.S. The Project Fi concept seems great, but neither T-Mobile or Sprint have coverage in many of the more rural places I travel inside of the country.

I don't travel that much internationally, but it's always an annoyance to have to hunt down a local SIM card or make do without a working phone or navigation during my stay. Really looking forward to trying this out!

I've been using project fi for a month now.
I hate being switched to sprint as tmo has better coverage in my area. I found you can force it to stick with tmo by using short code or an app "fi spy".

I had sprint and tmo prior to switching so coverage using those carriers wasn't an issue, being able to switch between the two is nice.

I averaged 12gb a month on my phone without tethering on tmo. With project Fi and leaving wifi on I'm at 0.04gb a month. I never use wifi before since I always had an unlimited plan but now that I always leave wifi on, I notice wifi is available almost everywhere (in my area).

I do have xfinity account and boingo account (amx plat) though, xfinity gets picked up a lot. Im surprised at how many people lease their modems through comcast.

If you are planning to use project fi as back up or for international you can "suspend" the account when youre not using it saving you some money.
